The Courier Mail has reported that Queensland fertility experts have touted the test one of the biggest medical breakthroughs for women in decades.

Dr David Molloy, of the Queensland Fertility Group, said the test would be a game changer for these women.

“Scientists are having success with genetic womb testing that has the potential to be a huge game-changer for those women who have not been able to conceive time after time when everything looked healthy and hopeful,” he said “When this test hits Australia at a clinical level specialists will be able to find specific tailored solutions around genetic problems.”

Currently not available to patients in Australia, the test when it is available, will be used by specialists to personalise treatments for specific problems faced by women trying to fall pregnant.  The test will also indicate whether a woman is unlikely to fall pregnant through IVF, saving them from the expense of the procedure and years of heartache.

Dr Molloy told Courier Mail that the test is “just a small subsection of exciting things to come.  In the next decade all kinds of genetic testing will change the lives of couples wanting a baby,” he said.

Researched by doctors at the University Medical Centre Utrecht and Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam, there are high hopes that the test will be available in Australia within the next decade.
