Foster brother was worried he might have made the 12-year-old pregnant.

Tiahleigh Palmer’s foster brother was worried he might have made the 12-year-old pregnant before she was allegedly murdered by his father, a court has been told.

Trent Thorburn, 19, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court in September on charges including incest and perjury.

The court heard that Trent Thorburn admitted to having sex with Tiahleigh via Facebook Messenger shortly before her disappearance and said he was worried she might be pregnant, reports 9 news.

His application for bail was denied by magistrate Pamela Dowse.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Elen French said Thorburn had obstructed police during the investigation and that he and his family had betrayed Tiahleigh’s trust.

“The victim was put in care and protection of the defendant and his family,” Sgt Elen French told the court.

“This defendant betrayed her trust. He abused his position as big brother and took advantage of her.

“A consequence of that is her young life has been taken.”

Foster Mother, Julene, 54, and her other son, Josh, 20, have been charged with perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice, and will face court on October 10.

  • The problem is if there has been no previous reports about any of the foster family the authorities have no record to refer to. Yes, they should all be gaoled. I also understand from the report that the car used was later sold. The current owner may not have been aware that it was connected to a hideous crime at all

  • I assume that the family was vetted by strict procedures to be eligible to be a foster family. Nothing is certain.

  • This is just terrible all around really. Very sad.

  • I hope the son goes to jail. Hopefully in there he will get what he deserves. As for the father who committed this terrible thing, he’s probably self harming just to get sympathy. Guess what, he won’t get any from me. That family were meant to protect her. I hope Karma gets them in a big way.

  • If the 19yr old had mentioned that he had had sex with her and was worried she was pregnant via facebook messenger before she went missing…how is it that the police didnt see this? Wouldnt you think that the first suspects would have been the Foster family and then Bio family, friends, etc. I would have thought that computers and phones should have been checked.

  • What a disgrace that a foster father and his son committed such crimes, when as foster carers you should be aware that your responsibility and care for these vulnerable children is so important and impacting !

  • Hope that the arrest of this foster father will bring this case to an end. How hard for the family.
