This video of a baby being tickled has sparked a whole heap of judgement.

New mum, Audrey Roloff, shared the footage of her husband and baby in fits of laughter on Facebook. She never expected to receive so many negative comments.

Some complained that the four-month-old baby had no control to stop the tickling, while others made wild suggestions about harm, torture and child abuse.

“NOT a good idea to tickle a child,” a follower wrote, “It renders them absolutely HELPLESS with a natural uncontrollable response of laughter.”

A second person recounted how they hated being tickled as a child and found it so relentless “I could not catch my breath enough to say stop.”

“Don’t tickle babies it will make them stutter. It hurts their nervous system.”

Earlier this week another new mum was being slammed for sharing a photo of her new baby. Read more on that here.

  • I was tickled heaps as a baby and a child, and I certainly don’t stutter nor do I seem to have a “hurt nervous system”! My little ones still get tickled and the younger one will ask to be tickled every now & then. Adorable video!

  • If a baby doesn’t want to be tickled he/she will wriggle in a different way and cry. The baby is big enough to put his/her right arm across but not stop the tickling but that wouldn’t stop the baby trying to block Dad’s hand. My baby did it once when she was grumpy. If tickling made babies stutter most people would stutter.

  • I would say that tickling is a form of attention and I certainly consider it to be a love-language. The video shows the dad just shortly tickling the baby, tuned in with babies response. Better tickling your baby, then shaking, neglecting, or abusing it in any form !

  • I don’t like being tickled myself. But who hasn’t tickled their baby to get that gorgeous chuckle from them?

  • Geez people, lighten up. People just pick on anything they can.

  • I reckon there isn’t a mum out there who could confidently say they had never done whatever it took to get their 4 month old giggling. At 4 months old if a baby doesn’t want to be tickled they will scream bloody murder, not giggle for the camera.
