New Zealand’s Minister for Women has been labelled a role model after riding her bicycle to the hospital to give birth at 42 weeks pregnant.

Julie Anne Genter, 38-year-old American-born politician, has frequently publicised bicycle initiatives through her social media, shares Daily Mail.

‘Beautiful Sunday morning for a bike ride, to the hospital, for an induction to finally have this baby. This is it, wish us luck!,’ Ms Genter wrote.

‘My partner and I cycled because there wasn’t enough room in the car for the support crew… but it also put me in the best possible mood!’

The post received over 2,400 likes and the majority of the comments were supportive with some saying she is a great ‘role model’.

‘Good idea, may have encouraged the baby to come… all the best – how exciting for you both!’

NZ’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, also recently gave birth to daughter Neve.

  • Does her bicycle have a wide seat and adjustable handlebars??? . It could have been difficult fitting behind them on some styles of bikes

  • Impressive! Not something that would have entered my mind, but not an option for me anyway.

  • Good on her. Staying fit in pregnancy is not only good for her but for her baby.

  • Great she was so fit ! Exercise and staying active can really help during pregnancy, delivery and after that. I was still on the bike till the last moment and on the bike within a week after delivery.

  • Certainly wouldn’t have done any harm if she had been cycling throughout her pregnancy
