A teenager has caused quite the uproar by revealing her plans to marry her biological father, whom she hadn’t seen for 12 years.
The 18-year-old shared in an interview with The Cut that she and her biological father has been dating for two years and were excited to be going ahead with their unique wedding plans.
The woman said that her dad had reached out to her after they had been estranged for over a decade. They first communicated online before meeting up.
So Much In Common
“We chitchatted online for a few days and found out we were similar,” she said. “We shared the same favourite TV shows – The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory – and we both love to draw.”
They soon discovered that the couple had “strong feelings for each other,” which were clearly different to conventional daddy/daughter love.
“We discussed whether it was wrong and then we kissed. And then we made out, and then we made love for the first time. That was when I lost my virginity,” she said.
We’re Planning A ‘Unique’ Wedding
They are now planning to get married, despite this not being legally binding.
However, the teen is keen for their wedding to be ‘different’.
“I want it to represent our uniqueness, so we aren’t doing a white wedding,” she said.
Black Dresses And Bowties
“My dress will be black,” the young woman said.
“The colour scheme is black and purple, and we are both going to wear Converse tennis shoes. He’s wearing jeans and a nice dress shirt. He says he’s not wearing a bow tie, but it’s my wedding and I am saying that he is.
“The tables will have bouquets of trees without leaves to represent our marriage, which will be like a growing tree.”
The controversial bride-to-be said that her mum doesn’t know about her relationship with her biological father.
“My grandmother and grandfather — my fiancé’s parents — are going to attend and my grandpa will give me away.”
It’s A Case Of GSA
This is a case of Genetic Sexual Attraction, also known as “consensual incest”, which usually occurs when children and parents reunite, after they have not seen or communicated with each other for many years.
As expected, the story ignited fury on social media with many comments calling the union distasteful.
“This is so wrong, so so so wrong,” read one comment.
“I wish someone would step in and save this poor girl.”
But the teen said regular people simply misunderstood their relationship.
“I just don’t understand why I’m judged for being happy,” she said.
“We are two adults who brought each other out of dark places. People need to research incest and GSA because they don’t get it and I don’t think they understand how often it happens.”
What Is GSA?
The term Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) was, according to The Cut, coined in the late 1980s by the founder of a support group for adopted children who had recently reconnected with their biological parents.
The group founder said she discovered that romantic and sexual feelings occurred in about 50 per cent of cases where estranged parents were reunited with their children as adults.
