Whether you are breathing new life into old furniture or reimagining your bedroom’s colour scheme, one thing that can’t be overlooked with any DIY painting project is the need for protection. This is where the right painting gloves are an absolute must.

The overlooked heroes in any house painting project, great gloves not only keep chemicals off the skin while you work but also offer a better grip and a much easier clean-up process when it’s all done and dusted.

But does anything go when it comes to painting gloves, or are some better than others? Well, you’re in the right place, because in this article, we’re diving into all things painting gloves and explaining why they’re not all created equal.

Why do you need to protect your hands when painting?

When faced with the monstrous task of painting the house, or even just a wall, it’s tempting to just pick up the brush and go for it. But, there are some very good reasons why you should take the time to prepare for painting properly and protect your hands.

Skin protection and overall health

A lot of ingredients go into a tin of paint and it doesn’t always agree with your skin. Providing a barrier between the paint and skin, gloves help stop chemicals from reaching your hands and wrists and potentially causing irritation.

A cleaner project

If you’ve ever worked with multiple colours in one room, you’ll know how easy it is for flecks to spread and ruin everything. By changing gloves when you change colours, you stand a much higher chance of achieving a professional finish you’ll be proud of.

Improved grip

Whether you’re working with brushes or rollers, a reliable pair of painting gloves helps you maintain a strong grip on your tools and reduces the chance of items slipping out of your (very tired) hands.

Cleaning up is SO much easier!

Scrubbing oil-based paint off your hands is nobody’s idea of a good time – especially when you’re exhausted after a full day of painting. Gloves are the solution – simply whip them off, pop them in the bin and get on with admiring your day’s work. This is especially critical if you have pets or young kids that have to tend to with clean hands.

Benefits of nitrile gloves for painting

Disposable nitrile gloves are among the best types of DIY painting gloves available in Australia. Why? Well for starters, they’re single-use and can be whipped off and disposed of in seconds with no harsh scrubbing involved. But even better is the fact that nitrile gloves contain absolutely no natural rubber, meaning they are safe for people who are allergic to latex. Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of nitrile:

  • Puncture resistance
  • Stronger than latex or vinyl options
  • Outstanding fit and great stretch
  • Latex-free composition is suitable for people allergic to natural rubber
