A Walk in the Park is proudly presented by Parkinson’s Victoria, a not-for-profit organisation that has been providing support to the community since 1981.

It’s the perfect day out for the whole family, including your pet pooch!

Join us for a leisurely, non-competitive 4km (return route) walk – or a 2km shortcut – along Melbourne’s picturesque Yarra River and celebrate the lives of family and friends who have been touched by Parkinson’s.

Enjoy free entertainment and activities for kids, a traditional sausage sizzle, meet new people and catch up with friends and family.

Be part of Victoria’s biggest charity event in support and celebration of all those whose lives have been touched by Parkinson’s.

It’s as easy as A Walk in the Park!

  • A terrible disease. Fundraising initatives like this need all the support they can get to help sufferers and their families.

  • Do they have a walkathon in Sydney as I would love to do it as my mum suffers from Parkinsons Disease

    • I lost my dad to Parkinson’s on a Sunday it was on 26.7.2009. He had Parkinson’s with lewy bodies and It was heart breaking every day to visit and give him his lunch at the nursing home. He suffered with Parkinson related dementia, hallucinated much of the time and for a couple of years in the end was blind, what I am about to say may sound horrid but its not..his passing was such a blessing, as he was finally out of pain and at peace (the peace he had asked me for so many times in his not often lucid times.) RIP Dad.

Here is the details of the Sydney walk.
      Unity Walk and Run
      Unity Walk

Sunday 31st August at Sydney Olympic Park. The Parkinson’s Unity Walk is staged by the Parkinson’s organisations in each state. It began in Australia in 2008 and, so far, has raised more than $1.2 MILLION to fund important research and increase the support services we provide for people living with Parkinson’s, their families and carers.
The Unity Walk is the perfect day out with family and friends. The event’s focus is a leisurely stroll or, if you are in Sydney, an additional 4km or 8km Run, for a great cause. It gives a voice to all those living with or touched by Parkinson’s.
      * In Australia, every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
      * There are over 80,000 Australians living with Parkinson’s disease, which is the second most common degenerative neurological condition.
      * There is currently no known cause or cure.
Get involved and raise much needed funds for research
More information on registrations will be posted soon.

  • I checked on the Parkinson’s website and they’ve got one of these walks on here in Adelaide on Sunday 14th September, which is 3 days before we do the Leukaemia Foundation “Light the Night” Walk. I’ll see if I can get some friends & family to do both walks with me, because they’re both very worthwhile causes.
