It’s been a tough year, so you wouldn’t be the only one who can’t wait to blow off steam this festive season, however, Happy Healthy You naturopath Sally James is encouraging men and women to try not to let their sleep patterns go awry.

Certain foods can help or hinder a person’s ability to fall asleep, with Sally noting that different foods can have different effects so it’s important to become aware of what works for your body.

“We find foods rich in melatonin, serotonin and magnesium contribute to a restful sleep. These can be found in cherries – which are in season in Spring and Summer and seen as a Christmas fruit,” Sally said.

Happy Healthy You’s Berry Good Sleep Smoothie can also be good dessert substitute in the evening. Ingredients include kale or spinach, oat milk, cherries, kiwi fruit, banana and our nourishing Happy Weight Berry formula.”

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 1/2 cup Fresh kale or baby spinach
  • 1 cup Organic oat milk
  • 1 cup Cherries, pitted (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 Kiwi
  • 1/2 pc Banana
  • 1.5 tbsp Happy Healthy You's Happy Weight Berry

Method

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender
  2. Blend well until smooth
  3. Pour into a glass and enjoy
