  • Definitely simple but sometimes simple is the best… and you could always swap ingredients out for whatever you had in the fridge anyway :)

  • Lovely and simple and healthy. I bet the ham could easily be replaced by chicken or salmon strips for those who don’t like the processed meats.

    • Absolutely, I’ve tried it with shredded chicken breast, avocado, chilli tofu nuggets, marinated beef strips, toasted pita bread chunks, and much more. Have fun with it. :) Thanks for your comment.

As Some Toss has stated below you can vary the ingredients….but it is taken from a 4 Ingredient publication.

    • Thank you for your reply.

I created this salad when I was about fifteen, as I was hungry and only had these suitable ingredients in the fridge. I was genuinely surprised by how great it tasted, and since then, I have made it whenever I needed something filling, that was cheap but not nasty.

I’m not sure to which 4 ingredient recipe you refer, but I assure you, had I taken it from someone else, I would have given them credit.

      Have a lovely day. :)

  • I suppose a lot of the favour come from the ham. Do you fry the ham till crispy sometimes?

    • Thanks for your question. :)
The ham and tomato do infuse strong sweet and salty flavours. You could certainly fry the ham if you wished, it would be particularly good fried if you added hard boiled eggs, a couple of par-boiled diced potatoes, some diced onion, and a drizzle of fat-free mayonnaise.
      Cheers. :)

  • I also love to add avocado, mushroom, capsicum, red onion, shredded mozzarella, and olives… But you can mix it up any way you like.

This salad has enough moisture and flavour that it doesn’t need dressing, keeping naturally low fat, low cal, and low effort.
