If lockdown life has been a bit of a strain on your mother-daughter relationship lately, and your usual recreational activities are off the table, then a bit of self-care with a home hair care pamper day is a great idea for some one-on-one bonding.

Here is some fun pamper day ideas that you and your daughter (or daughters) can do which hopefully won’t have you tearing your hair out!

Apply a hair mask

Applying a hair mask to your hair is a great idea to do every now and then anyway, so if you’ve never tried one before then now’s your chance! The advantage of a hair mask is that it leaves your hair intensely nourished and instantly shinier. Just apply to your hair after you shampoo, condition and towel dry. Try The Body Shop’s Banana Truly Nourishing Hair Mask ($25) which smells divine! To allow the mask to fully soak in, wrap your head in a super absorbent towel such as a Turbie Twist ($12). These towel wraps are designed to stay on your head, so you can say goodbye to balancing a bulky bath towel. Plus, they come in a variety of seriously cute colours and patterns.

Make your own hair treatment

For something fun, you could also try creating your own home remedy hair mask together. Liven up limp locks by combining one teaspoon apple cider vinegar with two tablespoons olive oil and three egg whites. Rub the mix into your hair. Keep your hair covered for about a half hour using a Turbie Twist, then shampoo and rinse. If it works then it’ll go on to be your ‘family home remedy secret’ and if it’s a dud, then you’ll both have a good laugh! Don’t forget to take a few pics to mark the occasion.

Have fun with different styles

If both you and your daughter usually stick to the same hairstyle, then change it up with something different. Beachy waves are in, and a great curling device, such as the cordless option from Wylera, $169, can work wonders. If you want to treat yourself, then applying a gorgeous smelling mousse first such as R+Co Chiffon Styling Mousse, $39, will help hold the waves for longer. Or for a fun “messy” beach look, forget the curler and just spray Bondi Boost Sea Salt Texture Spray, $29.95, through your hair for a bit of a crazy do!

Learn to do a French braid

Learning to do a proper French braid for your daughter is something every mum should at least have a go at. Plus, you may also master it for yourself in the process! Nowadays there are so many beautiful variations on a French braid that look simply stunning. Check out a video tutorial from a site such as www.luxyhair.com for inspiration.

Experiment with pretty hair accessories

Stunning bows, ribbons and hair clips can really take any hairdo to the next level. Visit www.colettehayman.com.au/collections/hair-accessories which has an inexpensive and beautiful selection of accessories you can play around with such as crystal and pearl hair clips, hair slides, head bands and adorable coloured and fluffy scrunchies!

Have fun!
