  • IGA at Christmas

I decided to make some Christmas treats with the kids for an early festive gathering at home, it was so easy to pop into our local IGA to grab everything we needed, IGA had a great range of ingredients from the essentials to the decorations. I love that the range is always a little different to what you'd find in the other supermarkets, and it's all priced well. In addition to our Reindeer treat ingredients I also picked up a few Black & Gold baking items, for other Christmas baking, it's such good value for money. Couldn't recommend IGA more, and while it's hard to squeeze baking time in with the kids during the silly season, it's worth trying to make the time for it - my kids loved it.

  • Thank the lord for IGA

Absolutely thanking the universe that I decided to live within walking distance to an IGA! Mine has the best selection of great products. Especially when I needed so many baking supplies… not ashamed to admit I needed to make two trips as I forgot to buy butter! Stoked that my Christmas baking is well underway, handy hint make a double batch of cookie dough & freeze half! We had our work Christmas show today where we all bring a plate so I took the opportunity to make extras of everything & freeze so Santa has his cookies fresh for Christmas Eve! Tiny hands make more work, but it is more fun. I put my kids to the test with baking & helping me plate this delicious lot. Not sure whether more landed on the floor, in their mouths when I wasn’t looking, or on the plate!!

This time of year is always a rush with end of year concerts, presentations and trying to fit in all the other things we need to do! Thankfully I was able to save time and get ahead on the dessert prep with IGA. My daughter and I whipped up a biscuit and berry ice cream cake that I can store in freezer until the big day. Time and money saved thanks to IGA!

  • Support local

I really enjoyed the experience of shopping at my local IGA. It was convenient, staff were helpful and friendly and the produce was neatly presented and easy to find. I decided to try making a biscoff caramel slice to take to my annual friendmas dinner (early Christmas dinner with friends). As I was tasked with a dessert to bring. All ingredients were easily sourced, of high quality and it made the process super quick and easy. I would 100% shop at IGA again to avoid the busy carparks and long lines at my other local supermarkets.

Was totally impressed with my IGA haul and shopping experience. • Gingerbread house fun

I had the best time creating a Gingerbread House with help from my family in creating this little masterpiece. My local IGA is close by and it was easy to call in and pick up all the ingredients I needed. I mostly purchased Black & Gold branded baking supplies with some extra supplies to assist with baking over the Christmas season. This was an enjoyable, fun activity to share with the family, loved it!

  • Easy and convenient for Christmas

With the ease of having IGA so close, makes last minute shops so much easier and convenient. My boys and I were able to grab the ingredients to make a trifle to bring to a Christmas party, and found cookie dough in the cold section to put away and make cookies for Santa. The ingredients were fresh and availability was plenty. Will definitely be back for Christmas stock ups due to the ease in shopping and large variety to choose from.

  • Got prepped for an early Christmas party at IGA!

I was so happy with my shop at Romeo’s IGA at South Eveleigh in Sydney last week. I spent just over the $30 and was able to make individual tiramisus as well as a traditional passionfruit custard sao slice for a Christmas party I was attending. I thought the value I got at IGA was great and the range and layout of the store were lovely - it was very large and new and actually felt nice to shop there. I’ll definitely be back!

  • Pleasantly surprised

Walked into my local IGA and was actually excited to see products that aren't stocked in other major supermarkets. It was super easy to find all my ingredients for my traditional 'lazy cake' that the women in my family have made for decades. There was such a good variety of biscuits, melting chocolate, good quality cocoa. Definetly surprised. This chocolate biscuit cake was prepared using my IGA haul, and is covered in the freezer ready for Christmas eve.

December is so busy with Christmas gatherings. I was so excited to be part of this trial and IGA really helped me “get ahead for Christmas” I managed to find everything I needed to make my chocolate slice and Christmas brownies. I was able to purchase the black and gold range for the basic products which enabled me to get so much great value! • Quality Ingredients and Friendly Staff

I’ve been wanting to make a Nutella Ice-Cream Cake from my favourite cookbook for ages now but haven’t had the right occasion. We are hosting Christmas this year, so it seemed like the perfect dessert to do now and help get ahead with our Christmas preparations. I had to drive about 15 mins to the nearest IGA store that accepts e-vouchers. The store is small, so easy to get around and find the ingredients I needed, unfortunately one of the key ingredients (hazelnuts) was not available in store. What stood out to me was how friendly the staff were, ready to answer questions, have a conversation and point me in the right direction of my ingredients.

I’ve had a misconception that IGA prices are much more expensive than my local supermarkets, however after doing a quick price comparison on the branded ingredients, IGA came in 12% higher (which was less than I was expecting). Each time I go into IGA, I do manage to find an ingredient or two which is a lot cheaper than other major chains, so for the savvy shopper who shops around, there are bargains to be had.

Overall whilst the prices are higher and the location isn’t that convenient for me personally, it was a good shopping experience, they sell quality ingredients, and I love IGA’s core value that they are supporting local communities and farmers.

I really enjoyed shopping at IGA this festive season. It was super easy to find what I was looking for and made me feel prepared for Christmas. I found it to be good value for money and I was less overwhelming than going to a large supermarket. There was so much choice of festive treats to include within my Christmas baking. If every school week is more like an episode of Survivor at your place, don’t worry, you’re not alone! The struggle to stay on top of the school week mayhem is real – so we’ve put together a bunch of clever ideas to give you back some precious time (and sanity).

There’s nothing difficult about these tips, just solid advice and ideas from a mum who’s been in the school trenches for over a decade.

1. Teach The Kids To Make Some Simple Breakfasts

Healthy Breakfast Cookies
Four Ingredient Healthy Breakfast Cookies

Hang on, this is about breakfast, why are we showing you a picture of mouth-watering cookies?! These are Four Ingredient Healthy Breakfast Cookies – perfect for a prep-ahead school day brekkie!

Depending on their age there are so many safe and easy breakfasts kids can make themselves. From toasties, to yoghurt pots prepped the night before or just cereal. Not having to make breakfast for everyone will literally save you hours every week!

2. Lay Out Clothes For The Week

Use a hanging organiser or labelled baskets for each day. Include uniforms, socks and undies. Kids can dress themselves without the drama of missing items. I’ll be honest, my kids’ uniforms are expensive, so I wash during the week as they only have a couple of sets. However, if nothing else, having just socks and underwear sorted for the week is an absolute lifesaver!

The other huge help is not having to pre-treat stains on my kids’ uniforms, nobody has time for that during the week! My extra tip here is to use a great quality laundry detergent that is powerful enough to remove stains in-wash, so you don’t need to worry about pre-treating. Biozet Attack’s range is perfect, and while each product packs a punch when it comes to lifting stains, I love that each targets different issues. For example, Biozet Attack Plus Eliminator Power Capsules eliminate 99.9% of odour-causing bacteria – great for teenage boy school shirts! There’s also Biozet Attack Plus Sensitive 2L which is dermatologically tested, but still powers through stains.

3. Use A Family Calendar System

Whether it’s a wall planner, a shared phone calendar or a digital calendar, you need everyone to be able to track all activities, due dates and after-school commitments in one place. It also helps gives the kids a a sense of responsibility and doesn’t leave everything on your shoulders!

4. Plan A Weekly School Admin Session

Answer school emails, sign permission forms, top up canteen accounts and check term calendars in one go instead of daily interruptions. You may only need to do this fortnightly or monthly, but just make sure you schedule it in your calendar. Trust me, it saves so much time compared to juggling things bit by bit!

5. Quick-Fire Cleaning Sessions

Set a timer for ten minutes in the afternoon, pop on some music and everyone tidies their zone. This includes the kids emptying their lunchboxes, washing their drink bottles, handing you any notes and putting their clothes in the wash. Small bursts like this stop the house turning into chaos by Friday.

6. Have A Snack Station

Child holding Babybel Mini Rolls over her eyes.

Keep a drawer or fridge shelf filled with ready portions. Kids can pack their own snacks for school, and also grab something to eat when they get home. Think ahead and include them in the weekly shopping – ask them what snacks they would like (and cross your fingers they’ll still like them all week!).

7. Set Up A Family Charging Station

One spot for iPads, laptops and phones. No searching for chargers or discovering a dead laptop ten minutes before school! Make sure each child puts their school device on charge when they get home, as part of their Quick-Fire Cleaning Session.

While we can’t promise your school weeks won’t have moments of chaos, taking some of these tips on board will save you time – even if it’s just five minutes here and there. It’s about building realistic habits for the whole family, that will hopefully bring some calm to the school week.

  • There are some great ideas here! I just use an old school paper calender but its so helpful to remember all the important dates – i always buy a family planner one so theres columns for each of us to write what were doing om certain days so we never run out of space! I need a snack station, but struggle to have healthy (or healthier) choices in the cupboard apart from the usual chips, rice crackers and museli bars!

    Reply

  • There are some good hints here! I already do have a little snack station in my pantry – a large container filled with all sorts of bars, etc. It’s the first place the kids look for something to eat. I do like the idea of a charging station but I don’t think it would work in my house. Everyone seems to like charging things in their room and it could look messy with multiple cords.

    Reply

  • The struggle is real so I’m loving these hints. I especially like the idea of getting the kids involved in preparing their own lunches and snacks and offering a variety of options that will hopefully encourage them to make healthy choices now and into the future.

  • A great article full of very helpful and handy tips. Most of these I already do but it has reminded me to add a few other things to my list to organise before the school year starts in a couple of weeks. Helpful tips like this are so great as you can never remember everything and this sure has given me a few extra things to think about.

  • We do daily life admin because it simply makes life easier to stay on top of everything that is required to run a family and household. Planning and organisation is so vital for every family and for a household. It really is very important to stay on top of all things at all times.

    Reply

  • I love this article. I can relate to a lot of these ideas. For instance, I have a snack shelf in my pantry so my kids can choose and pack their own snacks. No more asking them what they want. We also have a family charging station in the kitchen. iPads, laptops and phones are only allowed to be charged on the kitchen bench. I love the healthy cookies. I must give these a go. The family calendar system is a must too!

    Reply

  • I totally agree with most of these. We bought some inexpensive cereal dispensers, and that made mornings much easier. And school admin? For me, that is every Wednesday right before a regular appointment. It fitted in perfectly, I never overlooked anything, and if I didn’t need it it was a glorious burst of free time.

    Reply

  • I love this article and the tips and already follow many of them. I have always been a big fan of schedules and planners and they simply make sense and make sure everyone in the family is on task. I also love snack stations; one for the fridge and one for the pantry; again it makes sense and makes preparing food and lunchboxes and snack times easy.
