Looking for a comforting winter dinner the whole family can enjoy? IGA Corned Silverside is an Aussie favourite to cook up at home!

When the weather cools down, families tend to crave something warming and hearty, and IGA Corned Silverside is just the thing. Ready to cook, it is cured in a traditional brine that helps keep the meat deliciously moist while creating the distinctive flavour and pink colour silverside is known for.

Corned Silverside is a trusted winter go-to because it doesn’t require a lot of fuss. Just pop it on the stove and let it simmer away low and slow. The result is tender, tasty beef, ready to slice and serve piping hot with your favourite sides. Better yet, any leftovers are perfect for sandwiches, wraps and toasties the next day.

Affordable, easy to prepare and packed with good old-fashioned comfort, it’s easy to see why silverside remains a favourite in so many Australian homes.

Reviewers are currently put IGA Corned Silverside to the test at home. Selected applicants have received a $20 IGA voucher to pick up a fresh (raw) silverside at their local IGA. After cooking it up, they’ll come back and share their rating and review.

  • Delicious and affordable

We got a great quality IGA corned silverside for just over $13 and it fed the whole family plus guests. So easy to prepare - I popped it into the slowcooker with some aromatics before heading out to work and a delicious, tender, fall apart meal was waiting for us when we all got home. Served it with cauliflower cheese and veg, every plate was emptied. Great quality and great value.

  • Easy and cheap family favourite

I was lucky enough to be selected by Mouths of Mums to receive a voucher to try the IGA Corned Silverside.

I cooked it up as a classic family dinner with buttery potatoes, peas and a white sauce. It was such an easy, comforting meal and one the whole family enjoyed.

The silverside was tender, tasty and perfect for a simple midweek dinner. I love meals like this that don’t need to be complicated to be delicious.

I’d definitely buy it again for an easy and cheap family favourite.

  • Incredible flavour and quality meat!

Highly enjoyed the IGA shopping trip to find the best raw silverside! Plently to choose from ranging in different weights to suit all family households. Slow cooked in a delicious broth for 6 hours and served with a homemade pesto salad, white sauce and cheesy vegetable mash! Was the best silverside I have ever eaten and we will be buying again. Plently of leftovers for cold cuts, lunches and it was enjoyed by my whole family. Very happy!

  • Budget friendly and family friendly

I recently purchased the IGA corned silverside to cook for dinner for my family of 5. Having never cooked this before, I was a bit hesitant. I needn't have worried, it was so easy to cook and everyone loved it!

Being a fist-timer I decided to cook it the traditional way, but serve it differently in order to appeal to my 3 kids. I cooked it in the slow cooker with onions, carrots, garlic, bay leaves, brown sugar, red-wine vinegar and some mixed herbs and spices. Covered with water and let is simmer away all day.

To serve I sliced it thinly and combined with caramelised onion, mixed lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomato and creamy pesto mayo in ciabatta roles. A budget-friendly take on the good old steak sandwich. It was a hit! I purchased a 1.6kg corned silverside and there were plenty of leftovers for another meal plus cold cuts with lunch.

  • Easy and delicious

I cooked the silverside in the slow cooker and it turned out beautifully. Simply wrapped it in baking paper and then foil and cooked it for 8 hours on low. The whole family enjoyed it for dinner and loved having leftovers to make sandwiches with the next day. Would recommend for busy families on a budget.

  • IGA had quite a few pieces of meat to choose from although they were all very similar sizes. I tried a new method for me of preparation by wrapping in baking paper and foil and placing in slow cooker for 7 hours. A lot of juice came out of the meat and the finished piece was at least 1/3 smaller. It was easy to slice up but was a little on the drier side so I'd try it in brine next time. We enjoyed it more cold the next day, and the video shows it being sliced up cold which is why it is firmer. Overall it made at least 8 reasonable serves so is good value.

  • A Trip down Memory Lane

Tried the IGA Silverside and it was actually pretty good. It cooked up nicely and everyone enjoyed it — the children and my husband liked it as well. It also brought back a lot of memories from my childhood, as silverside was something we regularly had growing up.

It’s not a cut we normally go for these days, but it was nice to have something a bit different and enjoy those old familiar flavours again.

The only downside was finding it — we had to check four different IGA stores before we finally found one (this was even after calling them to see if they had it in stock). It would be great if it was stocked more regularly because it’s not the easiest cut to come across.

Overall, it made a lovely meal and was a nice trip down memory lane.

I love that Silverside is making a come back. It’s such a yummy budget friendly meat and there are so many possibilities. The quality of the meat from IGA was excellent. We had traditional style with potatoes, carrots and white sauce. Will definitely be buying this again. My family loved this as well.

  • Easy, filling winter mid-week dinner!

This is my first time cooking silverside and it was surprisingly easy to cook via the stove top. It came out exactly as I had hoped, deliciously tender, salty and paired great with some hearty vegetables and served as a mid week meal.

Leftovers made for great sandwiches and wraps throughout the rest of the week!

I had forgotten how good corned silverside can be. It was easy to find at IGA and so easy to prepare. I just popped it in the slow cooker and when it was ready it was so tender and soft and melted away. It was such an easy dinner for a cold winters night. I loved the convenience!

  • Tasty & affordable silverside

I was happy to try the corned silverside from IGA. Easy to find instore. I cooked it for 2 hours with water, onions, vinegar, peppercorns, bay leaves and cloves. Surprisingly it cooked well. I actually loved the aroma whilst it was cooking. It tasted so nice. This is an affordable meal for a family. Apart from having it hot for dinner, I also had it cold in a wrap for work. Either way it was delicious. I will definitely make this a regular meal as it's affordable and tasty.

  • A family feast on a great budget!

We have the amazing opportunity to review this silverside from Cooroy IGA and believe me it didn’t disappoint! It’s was a 1.7kg silverside and for the price of $17, I thought that was an absolute steal! We invited the in laws over and had silverside with veggies, roast potatoes and gravy! There was not a single piece left! The tenderness and the salty taste were perfect! I would definitely go back to IGA to purchase another silverside! Thank you again @mouthofmums!

The whole family enjoyed a delightful silverside dinner. The freshness of the meat, the ease to prepare and the delicious flavour - there really was no downside. • I Think I Just Found the Best Budget Corned Silverside at IGA!

With grocery prices the way they are, I thought I’d give IGA’s corned silverside a go because at $10/kg it was hard to walk past.

I grabbed a 2.1kg piece for just over $21, threw it in the slow cooker with onion, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns and water, then left it alone for the day.

By dinner time the whole house smelled amazing.

The meat was really tender, sliced beautifully and had heaps of flavour without being ridiculously salty like some corned beef can be.

We had it with roast veggies the first night, then the leftovers were just as good the next day with gravy. There’s still enough left for sandwiches too, so it’s stretched much further than I expected.

For a family meal that cost just over $20 for the meat, I genuinely can’t complain. It fed everyone, there was barely any prep, and nobody was picking at their dinner.

I’ll definitely be buying it again.

If you’re looking for an easy winter dinner that doesn’t blow the grocery budget, I’d say it’s well worth grabbing one next time you’re at IGA.

  • A family favourite1

The IGA Corned Silverside was budget-friendly and cooked up beautifully in the slow cooker. I added an onion, brown sugar, bay leaf and a few cloves and cooked it on low for approx 6-8 hours. It came out so tender and the family was so keen to eat it that I nearly forgot to take a photo of the cooked product. So the photo shows a partly eaten meal!! Will purchase again!

  • Would I buy this IGA Corned Silverside again

I was lucky enough to be chosen for this review. The Corned Silverside I bought was big enough for 2 to 3 meals for us. I can honestly say that the IGA Corned Silverside is very tasty, very soft and with just enough saltiness. We had a main meal and then the next day we had sandwiches for lunch. I have not used the other half yet but looking at different recipes to use which is not just the Corned Silverside and vegies. Would I recommend the IGA Corned Silverside? Yes I would. Would I buy again? Yes I would

  • So delicious and easy!

This was my first time making a silverside and I haven’t even eaten once probably since childhood! I couldn’t believe how easy it was to cook (just boiled on the stove with some aromatics and an onion), and the result was so good! Tender, very flavorsome and so tasty hot or cold. Would definitely get again now I know how easy it is, and also a very affordable cut of meat.

Mum-of-two Rebecca McCracken has spent the last four years reading ingredient lists on pretty much everything she buys at the supermarket.

Like many parents raising kids with food allergies, a quick trip to the supermarket often means checking labels, comparing products and hoping to find something the whole family can eat.

Bec’s four-year-old son and 17-month-old daughter were both born with cow’s milk protein allergy. While her son has since outgrown his allergies, her toddler still reacts to dairy, making even everyday staples like bread a challenge.

“Unless we buy expensive sourdough for seven or eight dollars, we don’t really have a choice.”

Even then, it’s not ideal.

“A kid doesn’t want to eat a sourdough sandwich,” Bec laughs. “And fairy bread on sourdough is not great.”

A New Loaf On The Block

Bec runs an online community for allergy families, so she spends plenty of time sharing recipes, product finds and supermarket discoveries with other parents.

It was one of those parents who first told her about new JUST bread.

“A follower messaged me and said, ‘Oh my gosh, this bread is coming soon.’ I was like, ‘Where? When? I need to know. I’m getting my car keys and running!'”

Made with baker’s flour, water, yeast, vinegar, oil and salt, JUST bread contains no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours.

For Bec, it sounded almost too good to be true. “When we saw JUST bread, I was like, ‘You’re joking.’ A bread that’s fresh baked but in the bread aisle? That’s unheard of for us.”

“It was really exciting for our family and for the allergy community.”

The Family’s Toughest Critic Approved

Of course, there was one person whose opinion mattered more than anyone else’s.

“My toughest critic is my daughter. She is so fussy. We know something is really good if she approves it, and she approves it. She loves it. She’ll eat it plain, toasted, as French toast … whatever. She loves it.”

Bec says she was impressed too.

“I like it. I like that it’s only got minimal ingredients and doesn’t have the additives and preservatives that are in a lot of other brands.”

A Simpler Option For Everyday Families

Bec tried out JUST bread because of her family’s allergies, but she says it has a broader appeal.

“I think everyone is becoming more conscious of additives and preservatives in their food.”

It’s a feeling many of us can probably relate to. We don’t all want to overhaul the way we eat, but plenty of us are paying a little more attention to ingredient lists and looking for products that keep things simple.

Bread is one of those foods that’s always around. It ends up in lunchboxes, on the breakfast table, alongside soup on a cold night and covered in hundreds and thousands at birthday parties. When we eat something that often, it’s only natural to wonder what’s in it.

JUST bread keeps things simple with a handful of pantry ingredients and no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours. It’s the sort of loaf that fits easily into busy family life without asking us to compromise on taste or convenience.

Little Changes, Big Difference

For Bec, finding a loaf of bread her whole family can enjoy is about more than ticking another item off the shopping list.

“It seems like such a little thing to the normal community, but for us this is a massive win.”

Being able to make sandwiches without worrying about ingredients. Packing lunchboxes a little more easily. Bringing back fairy bread for birthdays. Sometimes it’s the little things that make family life feel a whole lot simpler.

And while Bec found JUST bread because she needed another allergy-friendly option, its simple ingredient list is likely to appeal to plenty of other families too. After all, when we can choose everyday foods made with ingredients we recognise, that’s a pretty good place to start.

JUST Bread is made on a line that also processes soy and sesame.

  • I am so glad to hear about this and will definitely be on a look out for this in the supermarket. I have noticed that there are starting to be more ‘cleaner’ products in the supermarket, meaning consumers are being heard. We are going full circle back to how foods use to be produced before companies got greedy and started taking shortcuts to producing food items. I hope we continue seeing more preservative and additive free options that are affordable come back in the supermarkets.

  • Grabbing your car keys and running for a bread ?? I can’t imagine doing so for a bread lol ! It’s nice to see that more and more allergy friendly products are being produced and put on the market.
I don’t agree with the statement that “A kid doesn’t want to eat a sourdough sandwich”. It depends on what type of bread you introduce to your kids. My kids grew up with 7 seeds, rustic bread and sourdough and they love it. It’s also quite easy and cheap to make sourdough bread yourself.

  • I haven’t seen this bread in the supermarket but will be looking for it now. I have been trying to avoid preservatives and additives for some time now and as highlighted in the article bread it difficult to find, or super expensive, without them so I don’t have it often.

  • This is fantastic, finally a bread that is not full of nasty stuff. I will be going straight out to buy this. My son has ARFID and will only eat white bread, but it’s not terribly healthy. With this bread, at least I know that it is much healthier than the alternatives. Woohoo

  • I cant wait to give this bread a go (so far its always been sold out at my local woolies so it must be good). So good its suitable for those with allergies too. I think nowadays were all looking for cleaner options of ingredients in our foods so this is a step in the right direction.
