Philips Avent 260ml Grown Up Cups :
4.22 out of 5 based on 81 reviews.

We are thrilled to announce the Philips Avent 260ml Grown Up Cups product review.

Tip, Sip & Grow with Philips Avent

As your child grows, learning to drink independently is a skill which they need to develop. The revolutionary Philips Avent Grown Up Cups supports your child in the transition to independent drinking.

The Grown Up Cup was developed in co-operation with Professor Hunt (Orthodontist in the UK); according to him, this is: the ideal transition cup for growing toddlers.

The secret is the spill proof valve which only lets fluid out when the child’s lip presses against the valve anywhere around the rim.

Helping them to drink from an open cup-just like an adult without the mess!

Whether at home or on-the go, the protective lid always keeps the cup clean. Recommended for children 12 months+.

  • Great first grown up cup

My daughter used this cup for her first try of cows milk. She was so delighted that she could hold a proper cup and drink from it. It's easy for her to grasp and sip from and I literally had to pry it out of her hands to wash it. Definitely a great first cup to learn to drink from

  • A very grown up cup for a little girl

My daughter struggles to drink from anything other than me at 17months (Still BFing) and doesn't like drinking from baby bottles, sippy cups or water bottles. She always tries to copy her big bro and drink from a cup but always ends in a mess. But this cup she drinks from no issue and feels like a 'big girl' copying her brother. :)

  • Easy to Use

This arrived a couple of days ago in the post and I opened it and washed it straight away. I filled it and gave it to my daughter and she drank most of the water in the first 1/2 hour. This is great as I struggle to get her to drink and spend a lot of time encouraging her to drink. I had a cup like this for my oldest son but it was very hard to drink from and he only used it a few times before I threw it away. So I was very keen to see how easy the Avent cup was to drink from. It was very easy but also spill proof. I also like the addition of the lid for when out and about. The handles are great too but maybe the option to remove them would be a good idea so it is more like a regular cup for those toddlers who like to be the same as their older siblings. Overall a great product though.

  • Highly recommend this cup to anyone… Very pleased with it and will purchase more!

Leaving another review for all the other mums out there to show them how good this cup truly is. It has not leaked once even after pulling it apart to wash it. It has been left upside down on my carpet, in my daughters bag and everywhere lease you can imagine and not one drop of liquid has escaped! I have even shaken it while upside down full of water and no leaking… Every mum needs one!

  • Grate

This is our first purchase of a lip-activated cup. One of my friend's toddlers uses one, and he does very well with it. I purchased this for my girl, to help train her to use a proper cup. Good design to give to a toddler that thinks she can use a big persons glass (and can't yet), Great for the car and restaurant. They love being allowed to hold it and control it all on their own without mommy hovering just waiting for a big mess to happen. I haven't noticed any spills!

  • My daughters new favourite.

I absolutely love the grown up cup, it took a few trials and errors to get the lid on just right but after we got it my daughter loves it. She now has her juice in it and prefers her milk in the grown up cup at most time. She hardly liked feeding herself before the grown up cup now she loves having that independence. I would definitely tell other mums to buy it and have already converted on if my friends for her daughter and she thinks it's fantastic.

  • Avoid the spillage - get a Philips Avent Grown up Cup

My daughter is 2o months old and loves to do everything her older brothers do (aged 5 & 8). This includes many things as well as drinking out of a 'big kid cup'. I found the Philips Avent Grown Up cup a life saver when we went out as well as around the home as she could be a big kid with a 'grown-up' cup but there was not mess to content with afterwards. She learnt very quickly how to use the cup and loved her 'special big kid' cup! Advice to all parents -> Avoid the spillage - get a Philips Avent Grown up Cup!! :)

  • Not bad

My boys both have one of these cups (age 3 & 5) they have both managed to make them leak out all over the place. They manage to do it with nearly every bottle/cup that I have bought!

    I Really like them though.

  • Nifty cup

I brought a Philips Avent Grown Up Cup for my nephew when I babysat him. I found it was ok but he didn't really get it. He would just press the edge and spill the water everywhere. So I put it away for when I had kids.

So now I have cleaned it off and pulled it out for my now 16 month old son. Again he figured out how to press the lip and spill water everywhere but he loves to feel like a big boy and drink like Mummy and Daddy at dinner time.

The cup has lasted really well and is really easy to pull apart for washing.

I'm sure as he gets a bit older he won't press on it and spill water but it's great for learning how to drink from a cup.

  • This was great for miss independent

This was a great product for my youngest when she started refusing regular sippy cups because she wanted to be the same as her big brothers and sister but she still wasn't quite ready to use a regular cup yet. At least not without a whole lot of water ending up on the floor. This was a great compromise option that helped her to feel like a big kid without the mess. We loved it!

  • Little spillage, and a big winner in our household

My little guy loves drinking from this cup as it mimics a "grown up cup". The fact that it does not spill, or spills very little is an added bonus. We use it now as our cup of choice when out and about. It is easy to disassemble and wash in the dishwasher. There are no small parts to lose or break. It really is a very mum and baby friendly cup.

  • Easy to use but lots of spillage

We've been using the cup for a few weeks now and whilst he easily gets the gist of how to use it and loves drinking out of it as well as our cups.. he still makes massive mess with spilling all over him. It's a good thing the weather has warmed up! It's a great cup and certainly makes for a great transition from sippy cup to regular cup.

  • Good concept

Having a 4 year old big sister, Mr 16 months wants to grow up quickly by mimicking all that she does, so I was eager to try the Avent grown up cup in the hope of a little less mess while he did so.

On first inspection, I liked the bright colour, sturdy handles and also the clear cup for ease of checking water levels. I also liked that there was a sealing lid for when out and about.

Our first use seemed a little tricky as he is used to cups with straws, but after showing him to tip it, he picked it up rather quickly. Our only problem was he didn't swallow quick enough before returning the cup down - but we worked on that and he seems to be getting less spillage from that.

He has worked out though that if you hold the centre disc in, the water will run out and allow him to create puddles on his highchair tray - but that is all down to his cheeky nature I guess.

Overall I like the Avent grown up cups and I will continue to purchase them in the future. Thank you Mouths of Mums for the chance of trialling it for you :)

  • My son took to it really well

My 14 month old son picked it up and drank from his avent grown up cup soo easily. I did not even have to show him. It's a great way if transferring them from sippy cup to normal cup without having the massive spills ;) there would only ever be a few drops leak and that's only due to him not swallowing the amount he had released. A must have for all mums weaning ;) thankyou avent/Phillips for allowing to try this great product on my son Hunter ;)

  • Love it

Philips advent grown up cup is the best I've tried, being a mum of 3 boys 12, 4 and 18 months I've tried a fair few over the years

    Totally recommend

And Riley just loves it too

  • Amazing best toddler cup ever

Absolutely love Philips advent grown up cup

    No more spills YAY

  • A great product

Our little one is 11 months old and he started using his cup just a few days ago. He learned to control it very quickly and even if tipped it does not spill. After a few uses he has become very proficient with it. I would really recommend it and find it far superior to any other products we have tried.

  • Is defiantly not a non spill cup

I'm sorry but I really don't like this cup. I found that my 13mth old worked out how to push down the plug and empty all contents on himself. Each time I tried it, I ended up with a ringing wet toddler. If you can get you toddler to use it properly then it's fantastic but as mine discovered how to get the water out, it just became a toy.

It does however not leak when tipped upside down or thrown.

  • Great for transitioning

As a Speech Pathologist who works with children with disabilities, I think this cup is a great transition from a bottle or sippy cup. It was easy to get the water out & the water flowed out at a manageable rate, not too fast. The cup is also light & easy to hold with both one & two hands. I also love that it is non spill so it is easy to take with you or fir a child with a disability to take to school!

  • Easy to use cup but still leaks

Initially the cup was easy to operate, easy to open, fill and close. My daughter found it easy to hold with the handles on either side. The downside is that when she goes to tip it over to drink, I think she tips it too far back and too much water comes out which falls all over her. I have also found that it still leaks. She tends to carry it around with her and I find water trails on the ground.

Excellent product I was really impressed!

Miss O loved using this but she is very curious 1yr old and figured out that she could use her hand to make water spill out.

    But she still uses it.

Fantastic product and wonderful idea but not suited to my child at his age.he couldn't quite figure it out but I think it will be good in a few months (he's 18 months) I love how they need to push it down for the water to come out, so they need to work for it and doesn't just come out everywhere

  • Great Idea

This cup is such a fantastic idea. Our daughter loves to drink from adult cups but it always ends in disaster. Now we can control the water flow with this! She gets a bit excited though and pulls the cup away so quickly water continues to pour out for a short time but does drench the front of her. I think that's more the child then the cup though! All in all I love it and have even purchased another!

How to choose the best lunch box for school

When you’re searching for a kids’ lunch box, take the time to work out what will best suit their needs. If you make the right choice and invest in a quality one, it will last many years.

  • Box, bento or bag? If your child doesn’t like different foods touching, a bento lunch box is a great choice. Also, think about whether they prefer cut-up or whole fruit; a bento is better suited to cut food, while bags and boxes suit whole fruit. Bags are fantastic if you like to pack separate containers, like smaller bento or snack containers.
  • Freshness is a must – An insulated bag or box will keep everything cool and fresh until snack and lunchtime. But you can also get boxes that come with cold and ice packs. Remember, kids’ lunches often sit at room temperature for up to 5 or 6 hours before they’re eaten, so insulation and coolness are important. Check out how to keep school lunches safe in the heat.
  • Easy-to-clean design – Check if the box is dishwasher-safe, or for lunch bags, if they’re machine-washable.
  • Leak-proof – The last thing you want is a soggy mess at lunchtime, so if buying a hard lunch box, look for designs that are leak-proof with proper seals.
  • Child-friendly – Depending on your child’s motor skills and independence, you may need to start with a product that’s simple to open and close.
  • The right size – We tend to pack way too much in our kids’ lunches, so think about how much realistically you’ll need to pack for your child when choosing the size of their lunch box. You may also need to consider the size of their school bags.

What to put in kids’ lunch boxes

Health professionals agree that kids need a good balance of lean protein, grains, fruit and vegetables throughout the school day. Skip the processed food and try to reach for whole foods that pack a punch in the nutrient department. Here are some great ideas:

  • Grilled chicken or turkey wraps with fresh salad
  • Crackers and vegetable sticks with healthy dips like hummus
  • Whole-grain pasta with cherry tomatoes and your choice of cheese
  • Zucchini slice cut into rectangles for easy stacking in an insulated box
  • Almond-meal slice with raspberries or blueberries – or both!
  • Vegetarian sausage rolls – these freeze well and make a great meat-free lunch when cold.

  • That lunchbox comparison table is handy to have. It helped me make a decision on which lunchbox to buy next for my daughter who is starting kindergarten. I needed to upgrade her lunchbox but wasn’t sure which way to go. The table helped me with my decision. I ended up going with the BBOX and have found a cheaper lunch bag from a department store that it fits in.

  • I do not know if anyone else has picked up on this or not, but every bag mentioned in the table above is a ‘designer’ brand. There are plenty of more affordable options that aren’t over $40. I have never spent that much on a lunchbox – even from Smiggle. The cheaper brands last just as well too.

  • Getting ready for the return to school has started to kick in so this was a timely read. We have the yum box and i love it, it is so easy for my daughter to open and close on her own. I find the lunch cooler bags also a great idea however some days depending on what else needs to go to school, they can be quite bulky to include in the school bag. I need to do some more research this year as i like the idea of being able to watch it in the washing machine, that is a clever idea.

  • Along with all of the other back to school products; there is also a good range of lunch boxes available for people to buy. It has been fun to see the wide range of bottles and lunch boxes that are available for the new year for school and for work.

  • Lunch boxes have come such a long way since my eldest was a kid, he’s now 26! There’s really a solution to everything from food heating, cooling, dividers, pockets etc etc. Lunch boxes are a real fashion accessory and so on-trend these days. I personally love the Bento lunch boxes. They save on plastic and separate different foods.

  • I am such a huge fan of Bento lunch boxes and Bento. Food should be so many wonderful things; including delicious, fun, colourful and nutritious too. Lunch is a favourite meal because the body is ready for some more calories and a boost of energy. Food looks so good in Bento lunch boxes.

  • So so many fantastic options! We use the montii co ones for our kdis and swear by it. Its lasted 3 years so far and still standing strong, like new since the first day using it. They are so durable and i find cleaning them to be the easiest for us.

  • There are so many great lunch box option out there indeed ! I’ve always liked the Bento style lunch boxes for my kids. It reduces the use of plastic lunch bags and packaged food which aren’t very good for the environment and it encourages to present a good variety of foods (which is not only better nutrition wise but lao to prevent our kids from getting bored with same foods all the time.

  • There are some really fabulous options here. So many variations of colour, shape and size. I love the bento style lunch boxes, so handy to keep food separate and eliminate the use of plastic packaging. The machine washable bags are a great idea too. They can get grubby so fast, this would be so much easier to maintain

  • This has gotten much easier since my kids hit high school – they have strong opinions about their lunch boxes, so I don’t have to think about it so much anymore! However, I am strongly in favor of bento style boxes regardless of their age. They’re easy to clean, easy to pack, and invite appropriate sized portions.

  • Great article! Our kids are so lucky, when it comes to lunchboxes, they really are spoilt for choice. There are so many to pick from. Regarding sandwiches, my eldest son, used to hate sandwiches for school lunches. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered that he’d throw out his sandwiches in the playground bins. My son’s an adult now and he still hates sandwiches. He only likes “hot” lunches. So glad he lives on his own now and can make his own “hot” lunches just the way he likes them.

  • This is super useful article and thank you. I can see so variety of lunch boxes from every store. Always wonder which one would be more convenient to use by little hands. I love some of these lunchboxes to give it a try for this year. And then decide to go with suitable ones

  • Wow, lunch boxes have really come such a long way from when I was taking a lunch box to school. Feel old, like “back in my day”, but we were lucky to have options like are available now. While I like some of these designs, I feel like they aren’t super practical.

  • These lunchboxes are beautiful but are they really worth the expensive price tag? I have been through so many lunch boxes and bags over the years and found the best it to use an insulated lunchbox bag with ice brick and use small containers to keep individual items fresh and assessable.

  • I love the bbox lunch boxes. They are so reliable and tough when kids throw their bags around. Easy to wash and store. I have used the we can be tiny snackies at home too. The boys love choosing a certain animal shape. They wash well, are durable and great quality.

  • My kids are old enough now to pack their own lunches and I am so happy to see the great choices they are making. They take left over meals, cook food in the morning to take and now I am confident they aren’t throwing away sandwiches! I do have the chilly bags for them, I find they fit better into bags

  • Love our bento b.boxes. So easy to pack. I do however worry that they’re made of plastic, not metal….

  • My daughter uses a bento box now for work and sometimes an insulated bag in summer, but when she was at school it was a rectangular lunch box with no compartments. It was very easy to wash each day, just the box and lid, and it could still be filled with rolls/sandwiches and snacks.

  • Lunchboxes are so important these days. Back in my day it was a brown paper bag or the exact same lunch box that everyone else had and there were three compartments. Today its such a fashion statement and as much as the lunchbox itself is judged so are the contents.
