Introducing a brand new range from Philips Avent …
In the Philips Avent Comfort Manual Breast Pump Review, we are introducing mums to the new Natural range of breast pumps from Philips Avent … designed and developed with scientists, healthcare professionals and most importantly mums, to give you and your baby the most comfortable and natural feeding experience. So, whether you’re breastfeeding, bottle feeding or both, the new Natural range from Philips Avent is designed with you in mind.
Philips Avent Comfort Breast Pump … more comfort, more milk naturally
The Philips Avent Comfort breast pump was developed in partnership with lactation consultants with the aim to offer a more comfortable expressing position for easier milk flow.
Unique, natural expressing position
The Comfort breast pump is the only pump that allows mothers to express in a reclined position instead of leaning forward, which often leads to discomfort and back pain. Sitting up straight will allow the milk to flow directly from the breast into the container, This improved expressing position helps mothers feel more comfortable and as a result, express more milk naturally.
Clinically proven to be effective
The Comfort breast pump features our clinically proven massage cushion with soft petals that gently compress the breast to stimulate milk flow. The innovative cushion has a distinctive, velvety texture that feels warm on the breast, further helping mothers to relax whilst expressing. The removable cushion also prevents milk fooling, aiding hygiene and eliminating the risk of lost milk.
Effortless expressing
The new breast pump is especially compact and features an ergonomically shaped handle for effortless finger-tip control. This allows mothers to easily create and maintain a tight seal on the breast, making pumping considerably easier.

I recommend any of Avents products to any mummies out there. They are fantastic! The pumps are easy to use, painless and love that they pull apart easy for cleaning (with out having any hidden spots for milk to get missed during cleaning). I only wish I had bought one for my first pregnancy instead of waiting for the second.
I bought one for my sister in law and she loves it, its convenient, easy to use and great for home and when she's out. She uses it everyday and she finds it very comfortable. Now that she is back at work and finished breastfeeding she will soon start again with baby number 2 due in November and she again will have fun using her Philips AVENT Comfort Manual Breast Pump.
My son has attachment problems so breastfeeding wasn't an option, but I still wanted him to have breast milk. I have been using a supermarket branded manual breast pump which had a lot of small, fiddly parts and was painful to put together and clean, and the design was of poor quality, so I was constantly spilling precious milk. I bought the Phillips Avent comfort manual breast pump and it is a GOD SEND. No mess, no fuss, quick and easy. I am able to pump more milk than usual (at least twice as much!) and it is so easy to put together, take apart and clean :) Definitely recommend this product and have told many friends about it too :)
Having used their old one and this one there isnt much difference but i think this one is easier to hold. I hope this new ones parts last longer though a the old one only lasted 5 weeks. This one has one less part but is the same to put together as the old one
Fantastic and effortless, makes expressing a breeze.
I used the Phillips Avent Breast Pump for myyoungest as I had excess milk. I found it easy to use annd clean, comfortable to use and easily transported. Would highly recommend to all mums. It is easily assembled and easily sterilised. I had major discomfort using another brand but with the phillips avent I could pump one handed and no more sore breasts.
I can't speak highly enough of the Avent Breast Pump. It is so easy to assemble, use and clean. A wonderful system that just works. I had Avent for my first bub, then was given a different brand this time round. There is simply no comparison - the Avent pump makes it easy to get more milk in a shorter time period without creating any discomfort for the nipple or breast. I have and will continue to recommend this product to my friends and all who ask. Was very excited to review this product, and it well surpassed my expectations.
It was perfect timing for my pump to arrive as my husband and I were going away from my 4 month old baby for 24 hours the day after the pump arrived. So the pump came with us so I could keep up my supply and make myself feel more comfortable. It definitely did that. It is a very compact pump that I was able to put in my handbag to take with me. It was very easy to put together and pull apart to rinse and clean. I was able to express over 120 mls every time I used it when with the last pump I tried I was lucky to get 50 mls. It was also very comfortable to use and didn't hurt my breast or nipple. I also noticed that I didn't have to have it pressed up against my breast as much as I did with the previous pump I had used. Overall I was extremely impressed with the Avent breastpump and will continue using it and I will definitely recommended it to all my mum and mum-to-be friends. Thanks Avent for making another top quality easy to use product!!!! Thanks to Mouths of Mums for letting me review this product. From one very happy comfortable mum!!
I found this pump good for taking the pressure off engorged breasts, but it didn't really work for me if I needed to express to make a bottle. It is comfortable and easy to use, but requires more effort than the electric version to produce significant quantities of milk. It is easy to clean and maintain.
I have breastfed both of my little boys and of course needed to pump and store on occasions when I had time away from them. I tried the advent manual pump and oh my goodness it was hard work. I had awful trouble trying to get any milk out and it was so fiddle and incomfortable. I ended up purchasing an avent electric breast pump which worked wonders. The whole this was just too tedious and hard and electric was a million times better for me!
I loved this breast pump, I got it before the electric one. I got a sore hand from lots of use though. I got a great output from the pump, it was comfortable to use, gentle, easy to pack in my bag and so simple to use. The hand getting sore was an issue for me though so I upgraded to the electric version but this is a great budget option. As always I love and trust Avent and thanks to mouths of mums these reviews talked me into changing brands to Avent.
I used the Philips Avent Comfort Manual Breast Pump when I was breast feeding my daughter. I found I could express enough milk with it, but it was awkward for me to grip and my hands ached after using it for a few minutes. I had trouble with it leaking as I wa spumping and it was really noisy (squeaky). This made it annoying to use in front of the tv or my husband, so I had to sit on my own in the bedroom to use it. I would try a different brand or model next time.
Manual is great for when we had our first daughter, was able to pump and store my milk with no hassles, it becomes a little harder when you have twins and if we had the money we would have bought an electric breast pump but we was lucky enough to have 2 pumps to use at once. My wife said that this pump was comfortable more so than the other's she has tried and quite easy to use and wash afterwards.
while I was breastfeeding this pump was great! I found it easy to use, considering I am a bit hopeless with most things I worried that I would not be able this well but I was able to express once a day without much effort. The great thing is it so small, not heavy and simple to use. Lightweight enough to take out with you also. I would recommend this to any mum!
Overall way better than the electric as I have both! It is easy to use, easy to clean, great milk flow achieved, I love that I could just screw the bottle top on and then my daughter could feed easiliy. Great suction with no pain gained easily. My hand got a little tired but not too bad. Love avent and their new product range. Would highly recommend to anyone.
This is an ok pump I only brought it to use while I was starting breastfeeding then upgraded to the electric style. The manual pump is easy enough to use but does eventually hurt your hand. The pump itself is easy to put together and to disassemble to sterilize. I did find with my pump that the milk would leak under the silicon breast gaurd part which was annoying when I would need to pump while out because sometimes it would leak onto my shirt.
I tried to express using a manual pump. I ended up purchasing an electric one due to the fact that I wasn't producing enough milk and the manual pump was not getting much out.
I swear by the avent electric pump. Wish I had have thought about it about better before having my baby.
I have never had much success with a manual pump, when my first baby was born he was in special care for about 3 weeks and I had to hire an electric pump & use the pumping stations at the hospital. I tried manual many times & I just couldn't get the let down.
Fast forward 13 years & bub number 3. My mother is kind enough to watch him while I return to work part time so I need to pump in the morning. I reluctantly bought the Avent manual pump and have been so pleasantly surprised, my breast sits so comfortably in the pump and the trigger is effortless. I now pump every morning and with bub 6 months now I have plenty of milk for first rice cereal and mushy foods. I have tried a few breast pumps and I would highly recommend the Avent, especially for first timers. It's easy to assemble & comfortable to use.
I used this breast pump with the twins, I had 2 and used one on each breast. Quick and easy when you have 2 and with twins this was essential as I was constantly full, produced lots of milk. It was comfy and easy to assemble and use and gave us the convenience of having my husband feed one while I feed the other and vice versa.
I used the Philips AVENT Comfort Breast Pump with my first 3 children. It was a comfortable pump to use. I tried 2 manual pumps and this one was definitely more comfortable. It was quite easy to assemble if you knew what you were doing. It definitely takes a bit to use a manual breast pump if you're pumping for a little while. When I pumped I had to hand express a little as well (which is normal). All in all, I have kept mine for if I have any more babies for a backup, as for my 4th child I bought an electric breast pump.
This wasn't a good product for me at all. I couldn't express more then a few mls of milk, I could get more milk via hand expressing. I had trouble with breastfeeding so over my four babies I tried a lot of pumps. This one didn't work for me, I preferred electric as it was more time efficiant and worked a lot better. Would have loved recommendations from other mothers so I didn't spend so much Money on different pumps until I found the right one that worked great.
I tried this breastpump and it did not work for me. not saying it wouldn't be great for others but for me personally it didn't work, took ages to get the tiniest little bit of milk, it was quicker for me to express with my hands, was a waste of money. I wouldn't reccomend this product though I'm sure it did work for others. I found othothpumps and electric ones a lot better and more time efficient.
The Avent Comfort manual breast pump is a good manual pump.
For the price it is great quality, comfortable and easy to use.
I would recommend this pump to anyone looking for a single manual pump.
Although an electric double pump would be more value for money due to the fact that using a manual pump takes a fair chunk of time to use to get the same amount of breast milk as well as can cause hand cramping with the repetitive movement which is required to express with this pump. I also found that it was rather difficult to find the right position for optimal milk expression.
All in all for a manual it is simple in design, easy to clean and the flower like cushion makes this pump extremely comfortable.
This was the pump I had which I was gifted. I loved it. I couldn't afford an electric pump but once I got the hang of manual expressing I didn't even want one. I think this is so easy to put together, use and clean. I would recommend this pump to any expectant mothers.
I was still debating on what pump to use. Overall it was easy to use and disassemble to clean. I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to breast feed for 6 months or so. As i only could breast feed for 2 months and was convenient to use in that time.

‘Trust Your Intuition’: How To Advocate For Your Child In Hospital
Mother’s instinct is a funny thing. At home, we trust it without question. But put us in a hospital setting with an unwell child, surrounded by doctors, nurses and monitors, and suddenly we start doubting ourselves.
What if I’m overreacting? What if I’ve got it wrong?
So we stay quiet, even when we know something just isn’t right with our child. I’ve been there myself – when my usually ‘tough’ son was doubled over with stomach pain. I was told in the emergency department that it probably wasn’t his appendix. But I knew he wouldn’t have begged me to take him to hospital unless it was serious. Because I know him better than anyone. Turns out, it was appendicitis.
It’s a really common place for parents to land. You’re grateful for the care your child is getting, but at the same time, you feel this huge responsibility to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Here’s the thing though: that instinct you’re feeling? It matters more than you might think.
Why your gut feeling matters more than you realise
According to Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital, Leticia Jackson, parents bring something to the hospital that no test or machine ever could.
“Parents often say they ‘just know’ when something isn’t quite right with their child, and in a hospital, that gut feeling is incredibly valuable,” she explains.
Leticia Jackson, Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital
While medical teams rely on observations, tests and equipment, parents know the little details. The way your child usually smiles. How they react when they’re tired. What’s normal for them.
So when something feels “off”, even if everything looks okay on paper, it can actually be an early warning sign.
“When parents trust those instincts and speak up, this creates a powerful partnership that can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes an emergency,” Leticia says.
Worried about speaking up? You’re not alone
A lot of parents hesitate about advocating for their child.
You don’t want to come across as difficult. You don’t want to question the people caring for your child. And sometimes, you just don’t feel confident enough to push the issue.
Leticia gets it.
“It is completely understandable for parents to feel hesitant,” she says. “No one wants to be seen as difficult or to second-guess the hardworking people caring for their child.”
But here’s a helpful way to look at it: you’re not challenging the medical team, you’re helping them.
Parents are the constant. Staff change shifts, care for multiple patients, and rely on snapshots of information. You’re there the whole time, noticing the subtle changes.
“Our medical team doesn’t view a concerned parent as overreactive, but as a partner,” Leticia explains. “Your voice matters.”
Remember, we know our children better than anyone.
What to do if you’re worried: the Raise It process
If you’re in a NSW public hospital or health service and you’re worried about you or your child’s condition getting worse, there is a clear process you can follow called Raise It.
Raise It is designed to help patients, carers and family members get help fast if they’re worried about a change in their loved one’s condition.
Here’s how it works:
Talk: Start by speaking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
Ask: Still worried? Ask to speak to the nurse or midwife in charge and request a Clinical Review.
Call: If you’re still concerned, you can escalate further using the Raise It process to get urgent attention from a senior health worker.
You don’t need medical knowledge. You don’t need to be certain. If you feel something isn’t right, or your child is getting worse, Raise It. You just need to speak up.
What should you actually look out for?
Sometimes it’s not one big, obvious sign. It can be small, subtle changes that just don’t sit right.
Things like:
Changes in breathing (fast, laboured or noisy)
Skin looking pale, mottled, or developing unusual rashes
Your child being unusually drowsy, floppy, or hard to wake
Confusion or behaviour that’s out of character
Pain that isn’t improving with treatment
Or simply that feeling that your child is getting worse
And sometimes, it’s just that gut feeling you can’t explain.
That’s enough.
“You are helping us, not bothering us”
If there’s one message Leticia wants parents to take away, it’s that you aren’t bothering the medical team, you’re helping them.
“In my years as a Nurse Unit Manager, I can say with absolute certainty that many critical changes in a child’s condition have been identified first by a parent. While our clinical staff are highly skilled at performing regular observations and interpreting data, parents are the only constant presence who truly know their child’s baseline behaviour, personality, and what is normal for them.
“I have seen numerous instances where a parent’s insistence that their child is “just not themselves” – despite vital signs appearing relatively stable – has prompted a deeper clinical review that uncovered everything from early signs of sepsis to a life-threatening respiratory crisis.”
The Raise It process exists because healthcare teams know how important parents are in keeping children safe.
“Speaking up doesn’t mean you don’t trust the team,” she says. “It means you’re partnering with us to make sure nothing gets missed.”
And if you’re still worried about being judged?
“Whether your concern turns out to be something or nothing, your instinct to raise it is always valid.”
Even as a healthcare professional, when I took my soon to the ED when I was concerned, I felt awkward about speaking up, worried I was making a big deal out of nothing (even though i would never tjink this about a patient’s family if the roles were reversed). The message in this article is so important. Always stick to your guns. Always speak up and advocate for your kids – they can’t do it for themselves.
And honestly, some medical staff are idiots. I vividly remember the night two doctors huddled over my son’s lung x-rays. I hadn’t been allowed to accompany him to have them taken as I was pregnant. They finally told me solemnly that they were preparing to do emergency surgery as there was something in his lungs – “we don’t know what it is, but it’s definitely man made”. I took one look at the x-rays and asked if they’d taken off the battery packs for his cochlear implants, which were pinned to the back of his shirt, before the x-ray. And of course they hadn’t, and of course that’s what appeared to be in his lungs. Honestly!
I have learned many times to always listen to your gut and speak up when you don’t think something is right. This article was a great read, our kids are our world and if we don’t feel they are getting the right help, and we feel it, we need to speak up.
You should never second guess yourself when it comes to yours or your childs health- or anyones for that matter. Go with your thoughts. It is natural to want to protect a loved one especially when it comes to health situations, and the feeling you get when you think you didnt do enough to advocate or fight for them…it is not a kind or nice way to feel. Many people have ended up being heartbroken and picking up pieces for years because of feeling they didnt do enough.
A very good and informative article. I have read so many stories about mums just knowing when things are not right and demanding second and third opinions until they got the right answer. Sometimes mums just know. It is our job as care takers of our families. Listen to your gut!
Years ago, I spoke up for my 14-year-old daughter, but my concerns weren’t fully listened to. I’ve always wished I had pushed harder. She was sent home without much testing, and two days later, she passed away.
So, if you ever have concerns—no matter how minor—please speak up and keep advocating. Trust your instincts; they are there for a reason.
This is so important for parents to know how to raise it further if they don’t think their child is receiving the medical support they need! I know this article refers to the NSW system but other systems have similar procedures just with different names. I know in QLD it’s called Ryan’s Rule.
It’s so important to follow your gut instincts and express your concerns indeed. I have never hesitated to advocate for my children in various situations and I don’t care what other people think about it. Not all doctors and medical staff appreciate it when you question them, I’ve experienced that it may result in angry indignant responses.
How true this is! While nurses and doctors are the medical professionals doing their job on the daily, we know our children better than anyone and what is ‘normal’ for them. I would always speak up if I had noticed any changes in my child’s health and encourage other parents to do so too. No question is silly!
This really is such an important issue and a good topic to discuss with people, I am often surprised that people are worried about being judged. This is not something I care about; the priority is for the care and health of everyone is my family. Parents know their children and need to work with health professionals for the best outcomes for their children.
This is such an important issue to raise, and no one should ever feel ashamed, nervous or that they are being OTT for advocating for their kids, themselves or loves ones in hospital. In QLD we have Ryan’s Rule. A three step process where your concern will be escalated if they believe the patients condition isn’t improving or is worsening.
I have never been afraid to advocate for my children and partner and extended family and also friends. It is so important to listen and to trust intuition. When people have not listened, I have persevered and kept on with insisting on care and making sure they truly listened and took action.
