A mother has sadly died and her two young children left injured after the car they were travelling in veered off the road and slammed into a tree early on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to a rolled-over car in Kenilworth, on the Sunshine Coast, at about 9.20am.

The mother, 36, died instantly, police said.

Her two children, a 12-year-old girl critical condition with head and face injuries and an 11-year-old boy in a serious condition with head and neck injuries, have been airlifted to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, reports Daily Mail.

Officers on the scene said that the boy was trapped in the vehicle for almost two hours before two fire crews were able to extract him using hydraulic tools.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.

  • Oh no, the nightmares these children face growing up, how terribly sad, just awful to be there when anyone dies. Devastating when it’s your own mum and it’s in an accident like this
