He appeared to take to fatherhood like a duck to water, but it seems Simon Cowell has only just settled into his new role.

Cowell and partner Lauren Silverman welcomed their first child Eric on Valentine’s Day this year, but the TV mogul told Radio Times magazine, he never would have guessed fatherhood was in his future.

If you’d seen me 18 months ago and said “Simon, back at home now you’ve got two dogs and a six-month-old baby, ” ‘I’d go “Yeah, right!”

‘It was never going to happen,’ he continued. ‘But it did. And I’m enjoying my life now.’

He’s a cutie. I had a really nice day yesterday working from home, with him and the two dogs in the garden

The X Factor UK judge also spoke about how it took some time to adjust to being a dad, revealing ‘The first five months were weird. Eric didn’t have a clue who I was – I could have been anybody.’

‘But the last two weeks have been good. He’s started to recognise me, and as everybody knows, I demand recognition!’

Cowell has also shared photos of his journey as a dad, posting on social media:

“I never knew how much love and pride I would feel”

More recently, the celebrity dad tweeted this gorgeous photo of he and Eric while on holiday:

“Taking after daddy”

And while he isn’t a fan of changing his son’s nappy, after famously declaring he would leave the dirty nappies for the nanny, Cowell is hands-on with his son Eric, sharing this adorable shot back in June:

“Bath time”

How did you take to parenthood? Was it a natural progression or did it take you time to adjust?

  • Heartwarming and honest, good onya simon

  • Who would have thought? Looks like he is loving it.

  • yeah it was a suprise about how he went about it all though

  • Would never have pictured him as a Dad, how wrong could I have been.

  • It was harder to adjust to being an Aunty who babysat a lot first.

  • I have always loved being a mummy and yes it is hard to start with and scary when it is not as straight forward as it seems for others

  • I recall many interviews with Simon and how he scoffed at the idea of becoming a Dad, but look at him now, he’s loving it :)

  • I think it’s very honest to admit that sometimes it takes a while to adjust.

  • He really has taken to fatherhood, cute photos.

  • That photo of baby Eric in the bath, gorgeous. His eyes are lovely.

  • Loving seeing a Dad get his hands dirty

  • Some lovely photos. He seems to have taken on the role well.
