Hello!

I understand that being invited to a birthday party at school is a different affair than it used to be. I hear that some schools/teachers ensure that either all children are invited or none at all.
When I was in primary school, a girl invited all of the girls in the class bar three of us and none of the boys. Worse still, the party was in school time. The girls would talk about the party for weeks before. They would be collected during class. The diminished class would continue lessons until the girls returned all sugared up with party bags and stories of the party before remembering “oh sorry, I you weren’t invited”.
This happened three years in a row. I am not bitter. Not bitter at all.
I hope that this would never happen today.

  • Oh my goodness, can’t believe how times have changed. And long gone are the parties at home. At our school it’s all a bit of a competition about who can have the better party. Everyone is invited as the mothers compete against eachother. It’s just terrible. This year I ended up giving Miss 8 a party at home! She only invited the girls she actually plays with and we were quite subtle in giving the invitations. She does dancing so I hired 2 of the student dance teachers to help me out for the entertainment. It was an absolute hit and cost nowhere near what some of these parents would spend.

  • I still have very clear memories of one girl in my class who invited every girl except me! I remember my mum saying to the mother “oh I’m sure it was just an oversight, imagine how it would look if it wasn’t haha” the mother then said I could come & my mum turned and said “thankyou so much but we have plans to do a movie & ice cream” hehe! I loved it so much!!

  • I hope things like that don’t happen today. That’s horrible. I guess I will find out when my daughter starts school
