Something just got me thinking.
Wondering.
The long school break that can cause either immense joy or utter heartbreak.
I for one will openly state for the record, hand on heart, I LOVE the school holidays!!!
There I said it.
I’m not going to lie, my children fight. They tear the house apart. They cause more rumbles that a Category 5 cyclone some days. But I still love them.
Tips
The summer holidays are the BOMB. If you’re lucky to have time off, the long break is great for taking a trip away. Even if it is just discovering your own back yard delights. Camping or a trip to a local caravan park can be an inexpensive and fun trip for children.
Make play dates with friends from school. Better yet make play dates AT friend’s houses. Cheerfully phone and say you’ll drop them off at 10 and pick up at 5! Tip- always state that you will return the favour. You know how it is, summer holidays go sooo quickly. You literally run out of time when your friend cheerfully phones and tries the same trick. *wink*
School vacation care programs- book them in early if you need a day of grace. Quite often they organise great activities that will wear them out. Sure they come home grumpy, but they will sleep well that night.
The things I especially love are
- Sleeping in
- No lunch boxes to pack
- No school uniforms to iron
- The smell of freshly cut watermelon on a hot day
- Icy poles
- Bbq dinners
- Walks along the beach
- Lazy days in the pool
- No pressure, no craziness, no rushing about in the car!
I’ve read the stories, I’ve listened to the weary, I’ve endured LONG days confined to my house.
Psssst, uh huh, still LOVE them!
