It’s never too early to catch a wave, especially when you are the son of a surfer.

Professional surfer, Bethany Hamilton, posted an adorable snap of her seven month old son, Tobias, lying on top of a surfboard.  Bethany, who came into the spotlight after a shark severed her left arm at age 13, proudly shared the moment with the world:

‘My surfing baby, Tobias,’ wrote the young mother, complete with heart emojis.

Tobias is well known for having been ‘exposed’ to surfing.  Last summer, Bethany shared another sweet photo of her newborn son standing (with assistance) on a surfboard.

‘Meanwhile Tobias was mind surfing,’ she captioned the snap.

Bethany is well-known in surfing circles for her determination and strength.

In October of 2003, when Bethany was just 13-years-old, she went for an early morning surf with some friends and was lying on her surfboard, left hand in the water, when a shark quickly severed her arm.

Bethany went on to earn an ESPY award for Best Comeback and received the Courage award during the 2004 Teen Choice Awards.  In 2011, the film, Soul Surfer, was created based on her book, Soul Surfer.  On August 18, 2013, Bethany married her youth minister husband, Adam Dirk, in Hawaii. They welcomed son Tobias on June 1, 2015.

  • Hopefully her baby will be a good swimmer before too long.
Bethany is very brave. Many would not ever go back in the water.
We now know that it isn’t safe to swim or surf early in the morning or approaching darkness at night
