The mother of a newborn left on a doorstep of a home in Griffith, NSW, over the weekend has been found safe and well.

Just before midnight on Sunday night, the homeowners answered their doorbell, discovering the three-day-old baby boy in a bassinet with a note attached.

The homeowners have confirmed to Seven News that the note was from the baby’s mother:

“Please look after him, he is beautiful, and I cannot look after him because I am only 14 years old … my parents will kill me,” the note reportedly read.

With concerns for the mother’s welfare a public appeal was launched on Monday.  The mother attended Griffith Base Hospital yesterday afternoon and staff notified police.

The mother and child are being cared for by hospital workers and Family and Community Services.

The baby boy, is healthy and well.

Police have thanked the public for their assistance.

  • Oh you darling girl. You looked after that little boy for 3 days on your own. How scary this must have been and you proved what a wonderful mother you are by just wanting someone to look after your beautiful boy. You are awesome.

  • I feel for the young mum, at least she took her baby to a safe house and not done something much worse. Thank goodness she has been found and they have been reunited. The nan and pop are going to love this baby, how could they not, and he is here now so they can just deal with it.

  • I’ve since read that the woman was 18. Not that it really matters. She was obviously very desperate and in need of help to drop her baby somewhere. She did make sure the child was somewhere safe. I hope she gets the help she needs and the baby is in the best environment.

  • I think that parents MUST understand their child, and accept that child. This pour little girl who will safer all her life, and feel guilty for her child.

  • Can understand the mother’s reaction to what her parents might think – but I’m sure there will be understanding there especially once they see their grandchild.

  • Little girl! She clearly needs some help. I find it quite terrible that she couldn’t rely on her parents during this difficult time of her life.
