A teenage swimming champion was sadly killed after she was struck by a car while walking to practice.
Jade Frith, 15, was heading to the local pool in Warners Bay, Lake Macquarie when she was struck by a Ford Laser on Hillsborough Road.
She was rushed to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, but tragically died on Thursday afternoon from significant head injuries and broken bones, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The local community shared their grief on social media with many using the hashtag #capsoutforjade with photos of swimming goggles and caps.
Our thoughts are with Jade’s family and all who knew her.
