This poem from Laura Palmer will have you nodding along!

Goodness I’m feeling tired,

It wasn’t a very good night.

They had me up for hours at a time,

I was already awake with the sunlight.

Yes, I’m feeling knackered this morning.

When they wake, I wake as well.

And on top of a sleepless night,

I have to rise with the sound of the bell.

The kids have been slightly challenging.

I’ve dealt with ten tantrums today.

And then I had a doll thrown at my head,

When I didn’t give her her own way.

My day has definitely been harder,

The pressure at work is immense.

At least you just sit with tea all day,

This stress is making me so tense.

I’d love some peace and quiet,

There’s only so many times I can hear ‘mum.’

I’ve been shouted at for drinks and snacks

And to wipe his dirty bum.

I know exactly what that feels like,

I’ve had an inbox full of mail.

All wanting my expertise,

I’m so tired, I’m looking quite pale.

I can’t wait to have a sit down,

But I’ve still got to iron and cook tea.

Then once I’ve got their uniforms ready

I think it’ll be bed time for me.

Yeah, I really deserve a rest.

All day I’ve been on my feet.

Well apart from when I’m sat at my desk,

But you cook, I’ll take a seat.

I think I’ve caught a sickness bug,

My head and tummy feel sore.

But I’ve still got them fed, washed and dressed

On time and out of the door.

My god, I’m definitely dying,

My face is so swollen I can’t see.

I’ve probably caught some horrific disease.

It might be the last you see of me.

Yes dear, I know you work hard.

I understand that you are tired too.

But no matter how bad your day gets,

At least you are alone in the loo.

  • Alone in the loo? I can’t lock my toilet door for medical related safety reasons, the door handles are low and the youngest one comes to find me -he can reach the handle and open the door no, I’m not always alone in the loo. I now tell him goodbye, off you go and he does.
