The Morrison family selected a classic May Gibbs’ Children’s Book to Gift the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed to Radio Nova 969’s Fitzy and Wippa that he and wife, Jenny have gifted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex May Gibbs’ timeless classic, The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.

It’s not the first time May Gibbs’ classic has been gifted to royals either, with former Prime Minister John Howard presenting the book to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Prince Mary in 2005.

Never out of print since 1918, The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie combines in one edition May Gibbs’ much-loved classic, Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, and its two sequels, Little Ragged Blossom and Little Obelia.

Quintessentially Australian, these delightful stories, and the fantasy world of May Gibbs, have been a source of continual fascination for generations of children. May’s is a world filled with excitement, fears and adventures, both extraordinary and everyday. A world peopled with small creatures, where the real entwines tantalisingly with the imaginary and provides a window to the magic we all believe exists in the bush.

This beautiful slipcase edition with bonus art print, published to celebrate the centenary of one of Australia’s most iconic children’s classics, contains May’s original artwork that has been sourced and re- scanned, and the illustrations look as exquisite as the day May put down her paintbrush all those years ago. A short biography also provides insight into the fascinating life of this remarkable author and artist who has contributed so much to the world of Australian children’s literature.

Always a treasured gift to give.

  • I love that there has been a resurgence of May Gibbs lately. Kip and Co, Ecology and Walnut to name a few have all released an amazing range. I am so in love with it all, it is just a pity my bank account is limited over this Christmas period.

  • I got this book for my baby’s first Christmas and I didn’t realise just how violent the story was. I was glad that my baby was too young to know what was happening. We haven’t read it since!

  • Funny how Scomo could not come up with an original gift, thought he would copy what John Howard gave to royals.

    • Would have been nice if they got something from our Indigenous people, representing their culture.
