Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes welcomed their daughter on Sept. 12.
Having kept the pregnancy secret for months, they also managed to keep their baby’s name a tightly guarded secret.
But now the little girl’s birth certificate has been lodged and we can announce her name is Esmeralda Amada.
Inspiration from Disneyland, perhaps?
The actress, 40, may have looked to her Cuban heritage for the name. A friend told People magazine, “She’s absolutely in heaven being a mom. She and Ryan are just in awe of this beautiful person they created. It’s a really special time for them.”
While they were keeping Eva’s pregnancy secret from the public and paparazzi, she retreated to her 33-year-old boyfriend’s house.
“Their lives completely changed as soon as Eva got pregnant,” says the friend. “They used to travel all over the place together and go on hikes with their dogs.”
But when she fell pregnant, “she barely left the house,” People previously reported. “Ryan has been taking care of her, picking up food and running errands. He has been very supportive of keeping things a secret.”
Little Esmeralda (Esme?) is a much-longed-for addition to their family.
“This has been a long time coming,” Eva’s friend said. “Ryan and Eva definitely discussed children before. She knows how much he wants to be a dad and he’s going to be an amazing father.”
