This mum’s simple trick could save you hundreds of dollars off your travel bill.

Mother-of-two Janica Place, 39, from Melbourne, revealed to FEMAIL how she slashed $500 from return flights between Melbourne and Helsinki for herself and her two children by doing one simple thing.

‘I use two devices in order to make sure that prices aren’t being manipulated,’ Janica told FEMAIL.

‘I search with my computer for instance, and then I book flights on my phone.’

The mum-of-two was so surprised to see how much cheaper the flights were on a different device that she returned to her computer to check that they were in fact different.

‘I’ve since booked all my flights that way,’ she said.

‘I had no idea that searching destinations on different devices had such an effect. It’s crazy!’.

Another way to counteract the rising cost of flights when you repeatedly search for them involves clearing your ‘cookies’ – which are small computer files that let websites know if you’ve been on their page previously – on your device, so that your information is not stored.

When information is stored, it can potentially mean that some sites raise the price as you become more likely to book the fare.

Apart from clearing your cookies or working from two different devices, you can also go ‘incognito’ on your browser, shared Daily Mail.

This stops your device from saving information about what you do online to its digital memory.

  • Definitely something I’ll be trying! But the clearing caches on your computer doesn’t do anything although I’ve seen this as a hint previously.

  • You have to make sure your two devices aren’t on the same wavelength – our phones, computer and tablet all use the same wi-fi, so we don’t get this sort of difference.
