Coles has reassured customers that their policy to claim a free roast chicken is still in full effect.

The policy gives customers a voucher to claim a BBQ chicken if there are none available when they tried to purchase one in store, reports Daily mail.

The voucher, which can be collected from 11am until closing, can then be used for seven days.

The policy had recently come under debate with some shoppers claiming it is only available during certain hours at limited stores – and some claiming Queensland stores don’t offer it at all.

Coles confirmed this not the case and encouraged all customers who were unable to purchase a chicken to collect a voucher from the counter.

‘We know customers love to get their hands on our delicious hot roast chickens, so for customers who aren’t able to purchase one at the time they want within the period specified in-store, we can provide them with a voucher for a free hot roast chicken,’ a spokesperson said.

Have you scored a FREE chook yet?

  • Have always cooked my own as the cooked ones are always cold by the time you get them home and once nuked in the microwave they become very tough I find.

  • This is the first I’ve heard about it, good idea though. It is disappointing when there are none.

  • Is it possible to get one without seasoning which I can’t eat for medical reasons? I’ve yet to find one that has none at all?

  • Wow. I’ve never heard or seen this before. I will have to check my local store.

  • Look out Coles – there will be lots of people coming for this free chook.

  • Wow! I feel like people will use this even if they didn’t even intend on buying one

  • So, I tried to do this at a Launceston store tonight and was told they only honour this deal until 6pm! So, what the spokesperson is quoting above just isn’t true. I’ve contacted Coles Facebook about this and am happy to share their very unhelpful comments and clear discrimination if anyone is interested.

  • I’m so annoyed I didn’t know about this earlier. I went to buy a roast chicken from Coles last night and they didn’t have any. I wish I’d known about this. I would have grabbed a voucher for a free one.

  • I had heard of this but never tried to get a free one.

  • You can be guaranteed that now this has been made public Coles will make sure their chickens are well stocked so they don’t have to give any away. Too money hungry.
