Hello!

If you’re thinking of heading deep into the bedlam of the Aldi snow sale this Saturday, we’ve got a much better alternative for you!

Sports superstore, Decathlon is going head-to-head with Aldi and will launch its very own “Snow Smart Buys” campaign on Thursday at 5pm, only one day before Aldi’s snow gear goes on sale.

“Our idea is to disrupt the disruptor,” Decathlon CEO Olivier Robinet said. “Our prices are better than anyone’s … we just want to make sports more accessible to Australians.”

“No more fighting at a supermarket for a cheap bargain.”

Mr. Robinet said that consumers shouldn’t have to queue up outside supermarkets to score a deal.

“You don’t buy your pasta at a sports store – so why are you buying your ski and snowboard gear at a supermarket?”

At Decathlon’s sale, you’ll be able to grab adult ski pants and jackets for $49 each, kids ski pants for $29 and men’s ski boots for $150.

In addition, the retailer also made the decision to launch a year-round snow gear range, with about 150 products ranging from helmets and masks to boots and beanies.

Decathlon’s sale will take place in its four mega-stores – two each in Sydney and Melbourne – as well as online.

  • Sounds good, the limited locations are an issue. Definitely agree that sports gear doesn’t belong in a primarily supermarket setting!

  • There is a few places you can buy clothing etc, suitable for snow regions and cold frosty places. The quality is probably better too. Aldi’s products are made by manufacturers who put Aldi’s names on them buy they may be sub-standard.

  • I’m not really in winter sport, so won’t visit either shops. But I do agree with Decathlon’s statement that sport’s gear doesn’t belong in a supermarket.
