If you’ve been using a whole tablet for every wash, this mum’s dishwasher tablet hack proves that you’re wasting your money.

The weekly grocery shop is probably the most expensive part of the week, so any opportunity to save some money is most welcome! An Aussie mum has discovered a hack that will allow you to get more value from your next box of dishwashing tablets without compromising on efficiency and quality.

Just As Good

The thrifty mum says that cutting your dishwasher tablet in half will double the number of washes from each box and says it makes no difference to the cleanliness of your plates and cutlery. “They still clean just as good!” she posted to her Instagram page. The mum suggests that cutting your dishwasher tablet whilst they are still in the plastic packaging is an easy way to reduce mess and allow you to store the remaining half in a cool, dry place ready for your next wash. If you find yourself putting the dishwasher on almost every day, this hack could be life changing!

Tried And Tested

Those who tried the dishwasher tablet hack said the results speak for themselves. “It cleans exactly the same and we’re saving so much money,” wrote one excited mum. “Best tip EVER!” Another said that it worked no matter which brand of tablet she used. “It absolutely works the same – and I’ve used it with Finish tablets, Coles and ALDI…anyone who uses a full tablet is just wasting their money!”

We think this clever mum may have not only saved families a significant amount of money, but also a couple of last minute trips to the shops – we’ll definitely be giving this hack a go!

  • I am a but skeptical about this but will definitely try it today itself.

  • I’m all over this will see if it works

  • Will give it a go. I don’t see why it wouldn’t still clean I guess.

  • Such an interesting idea, ill have to try it

  • Ohh love this hack, will definitely try it as it sure can be costly using a tablet once or even twice a day.

  • Interesting. Worth a try although pretty hard to cut the tablets in half. I’ve heard you can avoid chemicals altogether and just do hot water.

  • I’ll have to switch back to tablets from the liquid tablets!

  • No good for me. I use Woolworth 18 in 1 Shine tablets which have the rinse aid liquid included.

  • Our dishwasher never seems to clean properly no matter what we do. I think it is something to do with our water supply. I have to clean it out every time we use it out. But I’m willing to give it a go. My late Mum told me years ago we never had to use as much washing machine detergent as manufacturers told as to.

  • I can’t see how your dishes would be clean with half a tablet as I don’t pre rinse

  • The powder and rinsing aid is alot cheaper.

I also get rid of bad odours in the dishwasher by splashing vinegar and turning on for a wash.

  • Even with a whole tablet some things are still dirty. I buy them two boxes for $20 when the reject shop have their special on.

  • I must give this a try next time I use the dishwasher (which will be tonight). Who doesn’t love saving money.

  • I am definitely going to give this a try! What a great idea!

  • Definitely up for giving this a try. Anything to make the dollars stretch further is got to be good (if it works)

  • I will try this when I can. It’s obviously a little tricky with the gel tabs and/or those with the ball in the middle.

  • Will have to see if this works. I actually found the cheaper tablets, not all but some, do a better job in my dishwasher anyway.

  • I mainly use Coles powder, but occasionally I’ll buy tablets when they are on half price special. But the gel tablets would be pretty messy to carve in half, methinks.

  • The quantum “tablets” I use are actually filled with gel so that would be very messy to cut in half…lol.
