If you’ve been using a whole tablet for every wash, this mum’s dishwasher tablet hack proves that you’re wasting your money.

The weekly grocery shop is probably the most expensive part of the week, so any opportunity to save some money is most welcome! An Aussie mum has discovered a hack that will allow you to get more value from your next box of dishwashing tablets without compromising on efficiency and quality.

Just As Good

The thrifty mum says that cutting your dishwasher tablet in half will double the number of washes from each box and says it makes no difference to the cleanliness of your plates and cutlery. “They still clean just as good!” she posted to her Instagram page. The mum suggests that cutting your dishwasher tablet whilst they are still in the plastic packaging is an easy way to reduce mess and allow you to store the remaining half in a cool, dry place ready for your next wash. If you find yourself putting the dishwasher on almost every day, this hack could be life changing!

Tried And Tested

Those who tried the dishwasher tablet hack said the results speak for themselves. “It cleans exactly the same and we’re saving so much money,” wrote one excited mum. “Best tip EVER!” Another said that it worked no matter which brand of tablet she used. “It absolutely works the same – and I’ve used it with Finish tablets, Coles and ALDI…anyone who uses a full tablet is just wasting their money!”

We think this clever mum may have not only saved families a significant amount of money, but also a couple of last minute trips to the shops – we’ll definitely be giving this hack a go!

  • I definitely need to try this – or perhaps change to powder. Using the dishwasher everyday I should try something new.

  • I didn’t even know there was a dishwasher powder, but a great hack

  • Sounds good but as I do and see is that a lot of us use powder

  • I only buy dishwasher powder so I can set the amount based on the dirtiness of dishes, just like with the washing powder. Saves lots of money. I use the Coles brand, from the bottom of the shelf, $4 / kg, perfect, lasts for a month for our family.

  • I use powder not tablets

  • A great hack but I don’t feel like it would clean as well. I’m going to give it a go.

  • I use the fairy tablets that have gel stuff all on them. Might have to switch to plain tablets.

  • Good to know- they only hack for me is vinegar with every wash instead of fabric softener

  • We have a dishwasher but I generally don’t use it. Just if I have guests, otherwise it’s easier (and cheaper) to wash by hand.

  • Well, if this works, the manufacturers are obviously ripping us off!

  • Good tip for those with a dishwasher. I’m yet to be convinced of needing one, but I will pass this tip on to my kids for testing

  • I would have to see it for myself to believe it. I remember being told to top up bottles of hand wash and shower gel to make it last longer. Apparently this destroys the preservatives so reduces its shelf life

  • These companies have labs to try and test these products if they could get more out of their product they would.Maybe I should half fill my petrol tank with water,That would be a real money saver,Cheer’s Krusty.

    • You wish !!! The quality of the water we get in some areas would probably “kill the motor” even if we could use water. Volkswagon motors are oil cooled, maybe they could make motors water cooled if we had decent water instead of needing to use coolant.
