A three-year-old boy has died after being dragged from a pond by his father.
Police have said the little boys dad pulled him from the water and began CPR just before pm on Monday, ABC News reports.
Paramedics were called to treat the boy before he was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick in a critical condition.
Sadly he passed away just before midnight.
Inspector Jason Reimer from New South Wales Police described the circumstances as a tragedy.
“It’s a horrible incident obviously for the family and friends of the young boy, no doubt,” he said.
“We’ll have some counselling services provided to the officers who were directly involved with that incident.
“It’s a tough job for all involved, that’s for sure.”
The child was riding his pushbike in the driveway of his home before he went missing and family members went looking for him.
It is understood he wandered away from his house onto a neighbouring property.
“His little bike was located at the scene however the actual circumstances that led him into that pond is part of the investigation,” Inspector Reimer said.
It is not known how long the boy was in the water prior to being found.
A report will be prepared for the coroner, Inspector Reimer said.
“Police will be speaking to some witnesses in and around that area to try to ascertain a timeframe and that will be information the coroner will be looking at.”
RIP little man. Our thoughts are with the family.
