Hello!

It’s all a bit surreal, isn’t it? It’s almost as if we’re living through a nightmare or the movie Contagion (if you haven’t seen it, don’t!!!).  I’ve put together some of my own top tips on how to survive Coronavirus reality.

Save On Paper Towel

Tea towels and facecloths are a great substitute for paper towel and tissues.  Use an antibacterial disinfectant to wash them with. Have a bucket full of water and the disinfectant ready to go in laundry and just put the tea towels and cloths in. Hang in the sun if possible.  The sunlight helps kill germs.  This saves on the paper towel and tissues, which we already now are very scarce.

Boil Boil

Boiling water kills germs.  I  pour the hot water over taps and dampen a cloth with the water to wipe door handles and then let them dry.

Spray

Glen20 spray is your friend.  Spray over surfaces without having to touch anything.  Benches, handles, taps. It’s my favourite germ killer.

Build Your Immune System

Warm lemon drinks and honey are good for building the immune system, in general.  Add more garlic to cooking.  Take a vitamin C tablet daily.

Fresh Air

Ventilate your home. We are having to isolate, but let the fresh air in.  Especially if disinfecting and it’s just better for everyone.

Be Toilet Paper Aware

Be conscious of how much toilet paper you use. Do you really need a bunch as big as your fist? With toilet paper being scarce, try and use less when you can.

Natural Cleaner

White vinegar and baking soda is a great natural cleaner for shower and toilet cleaning.

Are You OK?

Check up on your friends. Give them a call, facetime, skype, zoom or send a note. Ask how they are doing.  “Are you O.K?”

Bulk Up

Do a big cook-up! Cook some meals in bulk and freeze in containers or freezer bags.

Be Tolerant

Try and be more tolerant.  More understanding.  The elderly and more vulnerable are most at risk.  Do they have enough supplies? Offer to drop off a loaf of bread or milk so they do not have to leave home so often.  Make a call, or send a text.

Prioritise

Its times like this we really do understand what essentials and luxuries are. You may need to prioritise your shopping list. Make two columns – essentials and luxuries.

It is hard to cancel parties, anniversaries, trips, but everyone is on-pause and in a way, it’s a time to utilise compassion, communication, supply-sharing and getting back to the basics.  Temporarily.

These are all just my ideas and view, there’s a lot out there!  It’s not “crazy” it’s real.  And it’s all about taking care. Being aware and restructure for now.

  • These are some great tips. I’ve had to change my shopping habits since I can’t do my usual monthly shop anymore. I no longer go and see the elderly residents at our hospital, I can only ring to see how they are and this is for their benefit as well as mine

  • I think we also need to get off Facebook, or don’t was to the sharing of posts cause I’m seeing the same ones over and over and nothing positive anymore. Need more positives and less negatives

  • Its a tough time for everyone. We really need to support each other. I try and do a big shop once a week without my kids then send hubby in on his way home from work to grab essentials like milk and bread

  • Great tips and it’s just up to all of us to take care at home and when going out

  • Be aware that not everything you’ve suggested would actually disinfect surfaces. You’re right that we all need to be more thoughtful, though.
