Police are appealing for public assistance following an attempted abduction in Newport on 20 May.
Detectives have been told two 9-year-old girls went to a reserve in Newcastle Street just after 1.40pm.
They were playing near the corner of Oxford and Newcastle Streets when an unknown man pulled up on the wrong side of the road and started talking to the girls.
The girls turned to leave when the man got out of his black car, approached one of the girls and attempted to drag her toward his car.
The other girl ran up to the man and kicked him from behind and the girl he had hold of bit him on the finger.
Both girls then got on their scooter and bicycle and rode home and raised the alarm.
The man is described as Caucasian, aged in his 20s or 30s with light blonde hair and a goatee beard down to his chest and he was wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt.
Investigators have released facial composites in the hope someone may recognise the man.
The girls were not injured and this is believed to be an isolated incident.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
