The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been a firm childhood favourite for generations, and it’s also been the birthday cake theme for millions of kids – including my own!

Oh, how I wish I’d seen this hack when my boys were small – it would have saved me so much time and effort making a Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake. Created by the very talented Tigga Mac, who is a firm Mouths of Mums favourite – this cake requires just one Woolworths Mud Cake, and some clever cutting!

All she does is push a circle cutter into the centre of the cake, then she makes two simple cuts and assembles the cake onto a cake board.

Then Tigga Mac used buttercream to decorate the cake, smoothed it out with a knife and then lollies for the eyes and M&Ms for the legs.

Tigga Mac said this is probably the easiest cake hack she’s ever done, taking less than half an hour to put together.

So simple, but so effective! If you want to check out some the other Tigga Mac cake creations we’ve featured, take a look at these Comic Cakes or the Bingo and Bluey cakes.
