Woolies announces a limited edition ice-cream flavour you won’t want to miss!

Even though it’s still too early to be thinking about Easter (kids aren’t even back at school!), we have to admit that Woolies latest announcement has us looking forward to all the sweet treats that it brings. Hot cross buns are a favourite with Aussies of all ages, with popularity growing each and every year news.com.au reports, so this latest addition is sure to be a hit!

The Ultimate Sweet Treat

The new ice-cream won’t miss any of the original flavour, combining juicy raisins and a hot cross bun flavoured ripple with fresh Aussie cream. The traditional bun is still the favourite with consumers, making up 60% of sales, but new varieties appear each and every year to keep things interesting. Woolies head baker Ben Thompson says it won’t be stopping anytime soon. “Our team of bakers have been busy in the kitchen coming up with a whole bunch of new ideas and we’ll have lots more to surprise and delight our customers with our hot cross bun range in the lead-up to Easter,” he said.

Shaking It Up

If you’re not a devotee of the traditional hot cross bun, or just want to try something new, there are plenty of ways to shake up this popular treat. Along with the ice-cream, Woolworths are also stocking brioche style hot cross buns,  chocolate chip hot cross buns, and even fruit-free hot cross buns for those who hate raisins, so there’s something for everyone.

We absolutely love hot cross buns, especially seeing all the new and inventive versions of the classic each and every year, but we think we’ll hold off on buying them for a couple more weeks. We need that gap between Christmas and Easter to come out of our food coma!

  • I hope I get to try this. Knowing how things go they’ll probably run out by the time I get to the shop.

  • I still haven’t come across this in the shops yet. Was it available Australia wide? I was curious to try at least once….

  • I reckon I could only have this on an actual hot cross bun

  • Coles have the HOt Cross Bun icecream too and I just can’t seem to bring myself to try it. A little too weird for me.

  • My family tradition is no hot cross buns until Good Friday, I hate them unless chocolate chip, I can’t handle fruit in bread

  • If they want to sell it they need to put a price tag there. Looked at it at Baldivis Woolies and no price on it.

  • It’s way too early! Though I do like a chocolate choc chip hot cross bun.

  • I will be curious to try this flavour but I’ll wait till Easter.

  • I think it’s a bit early for hot cross buns as they are specifically for Easter ????
However I have heard lots of good things about the Woolies brand of hot cross bun ice cream and so wanting to try it

  • My husband & kids love hotcross buns. And although I appreciate the meaning of Easter, I’ve not too strong feelings connected with the hotcross buns and buy them happily. Same for unleavened bread / Matzos, I buy them when I see them and might stock up on them.

  • This hot cross bun ice cream flavour might be worth trying!

  • Hot Cross Buns hit the shelves immediately after Christmas. It ruins the true meaning of the symbol on the top of them

    Reply

  • I don’t buy hot cross bun now. I wait for Christmas. But I definitely want to try this ice-cream flavour.

    Reply

  • I hope the hot cross bun ice cream has a gluten free version!

    • You could make some yourself with vanilla coconut yoghurt, raisons, cinnamon and honey :)

  • Not sure about the ice cream flavoured one though.

  • Without the cross they are a simple fruit bun. No i do not buy them this year, actually only buy them if in a hurry. Prefer to make my own that way their are safe for the family. The GF ones are very expensive to buy.

  • I’d like to give this flavour a try.

    Reply

  • I don’t buy them this early but other people obviously do so I don’t have a problem with it.
