We asked and you answered! Would you ever kick the kids out of home?

Would you EVER kick your kids out of the house? My friend has her 25-year old son still living with her – she does the washing, cooking, everything and she loves it! I reckon, once my kids finish school, they’re out in the big wide world (too harsh?)

Is there an age cut-off before you’ll kick your kids out? We asked in a Facebook poll and the results were very surprising.

Out of over 1100 votes 42% said YES they would kick their kids out of home, while 58% said NO never.

Pretty divided really. Most parents agreed they were welcome to stay as long as they chipped in around the house and financially to household bills.

One mum shared, “Provided they pitch in around the house and do their own laundry, can’t say I’d kick them out.”

Another said, “My dad let me stay with him while I saved for a house deposit. Took me 2 years to save $50,000. If my kids can show me that they are saving their money then they are welcome to stay.”

Another mum lovingly shared, “My son’s can stay with me forever.”

One joked, “I swear my son and I will still be in the same bed, even if he marries”

  • My son is about to turn 18 and I can’t imagine making him leave, he is still my baby! Two of my step children have been kicked out of home by their mother and I can’t believe she can still call herself a mother

  • I’ll let my kids stay with me as long as they need to. It’s up to me to make sure they have somewhere to live as they didn’t choose to be brought into this world. If they want help finding their own place then that’s fine too.

  • So many different factors who knows what you would do depending on the circumstances.

  • Those old enough to leave home have done so and come back at times. When they started earning their own money they helped with the bills, just like I did when I was younger.

  • i think it depends on the situation and the child. Some children need a bit of a push in order to make their own way in the world, others don’t.

  • No, I wouldn’t kick my daughter out. And I know she wants to live with us forever. So I’d better accept that. :-)

  • Would depend on the circumstances, are they working, saving for a deposit, lazy, is there no local rentals, what’s their attitude like?

Think it really is a case by case situation

  • I would never kick my kids out! I bawled for weeks when they voluntarily left home. I’m happy to have them as long as they remain respectful and do their fair share round the house, which they have always done

  • A little bit excited that my comment made it into the article :)

  • No I don’t think so but it all depends on the circumstances.

  • I find it hard to imagine making mine leave.

  • I stayed at home and helped around the house some work nights and at weekends. When there was only 2 of us, I made sure I paid 1/2 of all the bills including things such as new fridge, freezer and stove. I also paid 1/2 of any repairs needed that I couldn’t do myself. Had I not stayed home my Mum would not have been safe to live alone.

  • No, my kids are my everything. At least i know where they are every night

  • There will always be a place for my kids if they ever need it

  • I feel like I wouldn’t but my eldest is still only not even 4 so, I don’t know if I could say!
