Young boy dubbed the world’s fattest child has been put on a crash diet to save his life.

Arya Permana, a 10 year old Indonesian boy, weighs over 190kg and is classified as being morbidly obese. He can’t walk any more and had to quit school as a result of his weight.

His parents have been unable to find clothes that fit him, so he now wears a sarong all the time.

Metro reports his mother Rokayah Somantri said: ‘He is perpetually hungry and has an enormous diet and can actually eat meals of two adults at one time. He is always tired and complains of shortness of breath. He only eats and sleeps and when he is not done with both, he jumps into the bathtub and stays there for hours.

‘There is no other pain than seeing your own child suffering. My son does not go to school because he cannot walk on his own and needs my round-the-clock assistance.

‘He can only take small steps before he looses balance. I wish to see my son studying and playing with other kids in the neighbourhood.’

Arya, the second son of Rokayah, 35, and her husband Ade Somantri, 45, a farmer, was born at home via natural birth and weighed a normal 7lbs.

But by the time he turned two years old, Arya had gained weight at an abnormal rate for his age. Despite this, his parents said they were not worried initially as they were happy to see their son ‘healthy’.

Roykaya said: ‘We were happy to see him fuller and considered him to be a happy, healthy child.

‘But it was only a few years later when he bloated and his weight went out of control, we realised he was suffering from a disorder and needed medical attention.’

Doctors could not find anything abnormal about his weight gain.

His father, Ade, said: ‘I have insufficient money to buy food to fulfil his large appetite. I borrow money so that he can eat. Of course, I cannot keep him starving.

‘I am exhausted now and I cannot afford expensive hospitals. But I hope to see my son perfectly normal one day.

The helpless parents have now put Arya on a diet of brown rice in the hope of controlling his weight.

‘No mother wants to stop feeding her children but I am unfortunate and helpless. I have started putting him on brown rice diet. I am not sure if it help but this is the only thing I can do to stop him from growing bigger,’ added Rokayah.

We wish him all the best in his weight loss journey.

  • It’s so hard not to judge the parents when reading this story but in my experience people do better when they know better. Hope this family gets the help they need.

  • Poor boy !
So doctors couldn’t find anything abnormal. Probably means this boy was allowed to binge eat from a very young age and parents fed him all the time. Seems to me important that parents and son both get educated in this area.

  • I wish him well when it comes to weight loss but i believe that the parents should be held more accountable, they claim he can eat 2 full sized dinner in the time it takes 1 person to eat one. How do they know this unless they have let him eat 2 dinners?? If my child was obese to the point of shortness of breath then i wouldnt be allowing him to eat 2 full plates of dinner… nor would i be stocking the cupboards with junk food. Another article i read has his parents say that he eats 3 to 5 packets of potato chips in one go……WHO IS BUYING THEM?? it makes me angry when parents enable bad habits and then says they dont know how it happened.

  • I met a guy who was morbidly obese. He loved exercising and ate a reasonably healthy diet. He started to gain weight rapidly after knee surgery. Initially he had to rest to allow his knee and its surrounding skin to heal, then he started going for long walks and to the gym. He went to special low carb diets, continued exercising but continued to gain weight. His skin, mainly on his legs got so tight it started splitting and forming ulcers. He went into hospital, asked for a special diet which he followed rigidly for a fortnight and didn’t lose any weight. They introduced another one and he actually gained weight. During that time he didn’t have any visitors so it wasn’t as though he received food from outside. He was confined to the ward in a very long building in case he had a fall but was allowed to walk around as much as he could. During the time he was in hospital he also had phsyio to see if that would help. They didn’t work out whether a nerve, gland or something was damaged during surgery. While he was working he usually had a salad sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch. Even when he went to sporting events he took his homemade lunch and bottles of water.

  • This must be so difficult for the parents, they have given their hearts and souls to their child. Good luck with the diet

  • I think he may have a medical condition where you eat and never feel full, hence the over eating. I really hope they are getting help with his weight and he is able to be a child again and go to school. hopefully brining it out on social media like they have done will get some expert advice as they really need it before it it too late.

  • Wish you guys the best of luck. All I can say is be strong and stick with it. Make him do a little exercise even if sitting down. Sometimes as parents we have to be cruel to be kind. Don’t give up on your beautiful boy ????????

  • If I were one of his parents, I would have sought help well before it reached this stage. I hope he gets help and returns to good health.
