A sprightly 105-year old woman has shared her secret to longevity. And it’s all about avoiding men and staying single.

The centenarian, who lived through both world wars, was born in 1913, and hared her tips with carers at her retirement home during her 105th birthday celebration.

Recipe For Long Life

Brenda Osborne, a retired nurse, revealed that she reached 105 by keeping well clear of men, getting out in the fresh air, and working hard.

She lived in her childhood home for an impressive 93 years before she moved to the nursing home at the ripe old age of 104.

Where’s The Queen?

Brenda said:

“I would put my good health down to hard work and avoiding men. I loved celebrating my birthday although I was disappointed the Queen didn’t come.

I received my letter from her but I thought an appearance was the least she could do.”

Brenda first began work at Victoria Hospital in 1940, nursing Dunkirk veterans, and received an award for only having one day off sick in 33 years.

Wow, I think we could all learn a thing or two from this inspiring woman.

  • Good luck to her longevity. Born the same year as my mum.

  • I wish I had read this 30 years ago! Lol. But she also doesn’t mention children. Not sure I could have gone through life childless, single yes but to not be a mother…….no way

  • How cute is she good luck to her

  • Brenda still has a good memory and probably a great sense of humour too.
I guess she’ll keep the nurses on their toes too.

  • Good on her no wonder she has lived so long, I do agree with most of what she has to say. I just haven’t followed her footsteps.

  • Wonderful age!!

  • Haha she’s great where is the Queen???

  • Good on her for lifestyle choice – it has worked for her.

  • Wow, she has some wisdom !

  • Amazing story and woman who has done so much in her lifetime

  • Wow good for her, hope she still took the opportunity to enjoy her long life though

  • The lady knows her stuff!

  • A very wise woman
Good on her and wishing her a happy and healthy birthday

  • Some days I can totally understand how avoiding men could reduce stress levels enough to lengthen your life.
