Hello!

The Aldi checkout gives me anxiety. No matter how fast or organised I am, I emerge from the supermarket payment area on edge, shaking from a surge of adrenaline, failing dismally to keep up with the lightning speed Super-cashier. But now, a shopper has come up with a brilliant packing hack that may save me from all that stress.

I’ve tried all kinds of strategies at the Aldi checkout but I just can’t say that I’ve ever really nailed it. But one power shopping couple has revealed their tactic and I think this is the packing hack I’ve been waiting for.

The Aldi customer has posted on the Aldi Mums facebook page, revealing how she uses a standard trolley and a signature swipe action to beat the gauntlet of the crazy cashier.

This Packing Hack Works!

The women filmed her partner demo’ing the packing hack and while it’s not exactly conventional, it does work.

It’s all about the strategic placement of the trolley in combination with the ninja hand action. The video shows the front of the trolley facing the checkout counter (no side-on positions, please.) Then once the cashier has scanned the item, the man swipes at the product and flicks it directly into the trolley.

The Way To Do It!

The key is to maintain a steady swiping speed but also to not overdo it with the pressure of the hand movement – you don’t want glass jars breaking due to unnecessary force. The man also shows how he continues the swiping action even while the cashier is scanning so that he doesn’t lose momentum and is poised and ready to take action. You may not get the movement right at first but hey, practice does make perfect.

The packing hack has revolutionised the checkout process, ensuring that there is no wasted time in having to pick up items and put them into bags or juggle them in our arms.

Once payment is made, you can then easily move on to the supermarket designated packing area, where you can transfer your groceries into bags or you can simply pack them straight into your car.

Love It!

“This is how you do it, ladies,” the clever shopper wrote in her post.

The group members immediately heaped adoration over the packing hack.

“we’ve been doing it wrong,” said one shopper.

“Love the technique,” complimented another.

“This is gold!”

This is how I do it!

Others shared their own versions of the packing hack:

“Depending on the size of my shop I take a washing basket in the trolley. It’s as quick as the checkout person lol
You can then put it in the basket sitting in the trolley then pop the basket in the car. And then from the car to house,” revealed one experienced shopper.

“I load the belt, harder stuff, cans and things 1st, meat and vegies, then bread and the like last. Nothing gets damaged and I then pack at the car,” said another.

Shattering!

There were a couple that weren’t as enthusiastic:

“Yea and then have ur shopping crushed and broken,” said one.

“I’d be worried class would break doing it that way and my bread would be squashed and eggs would break,” said another.

“I suppose it would be OK that’s if you don’t mind bruised potatoes etc etc?”

You may not be a fan of this packing technique but I sure am! It’s a game-changer for me.

  • I think its all about how you pack it on the belt and how fast the person in front takes to move out of the way.

  • Don’t shop at Adli very much more Coles and Safeway!

  • It certainly is a quick way of doing it.

  • Now the washing basket hack sounds like a good one I must say

  • I don’t know that I’ve ever spent any time thinking about how to pack my trolley faster.

  • I’ve never shopped at Aldi’s but when I do my shopping I’ve always just loaded everything back into the trolley and packed at the car. My son unpacks at the checkout and I stand at the other end putting the groceries into another trolley. Easy peasy. I would never put my groceries into the trolley the way this man does though.

  • I tend to not shop at Aldi often, and when I do it’s really only a few things to fit into a bag.

  • I would never do this, nor would I need to. I would be lucky to buy 3 items from Aldi and these days not even that. It’s not a store I like to use.

  • That is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen. If I did that everything would be broken and crushed. I just ask them to slow down. If they don’t, well, they have a mess to clean up. I can only go as fast as I can go. I have a bung shoulder, tennis elbow and carpal tunnel on my right side which is the side I have to use with the way the checkouts are set up. I also suffer with positional vertigo which means I can get really dizzy when I have to bob up and down to place things in the trolley. Most of them will go slower if you ask. I have sometimes had to ask twice. A couple times though they didn’t slow down and I have had packets of blueberries spill on the floor, soft drink falling off and exploding before I could pick it up, I have even had pasta sauce hit the deck, but I just do my own speed. I can tell you, once things start hitting the floor because they are going too fast for me, they slow down, and they have a mess to clean up. They soon learn. Thankfully, most are lovely and accommodate my slow packing speed.

  • Nope nope & nope, bruised fruit and squashed bread no thank you, it isn’t that hard and all it does is encourage the checker to go faster, they will slow down if there is a back log and if you politely ask them, most are very nice people

  • Totally unnecessary and a bit lazy tbh

  • That’s like all European stores. None of them puts your groceries in the bags. Just lazy over here.
