A mum-of-three has helped the Texas flood victims in a very unique way by donating almost 30 litres of breast milk.

Danielle Palmer, who lives in Louisiana (about eight hours away from Texas by car), has sent a cooler of her breast milk to the flood affected area after she was watching the flooding in Houston on TV.

“I can’t imagine being in a situation where you’re losing everything and just the fear of all of that,” Ms Palmer told US broadcaster News 4.

“All I could do was sit and pray for the mums and dads and kids. Beauty can come from this. It won’t be bad forever.”

Ms Palmer said that if a normal baby gets three ounces of milk (88 millilitres), it’s 346 feedings she is supplying.

The donated milk will be given to mums whose power supply went out when pumps floated away with the floodwaters, or those who are just aren’t able to produce milk right now.

“Stress plays a big role in your supply. If you become stressed, your supply will drop,” Ms Palmer said.

“We have each other’s backs. We take care of each other. Breastfeeding is hard. Whether you’re pumping or feeding or however it may be, it’s hard.”

What a selfless thing to do for so many families in need. Well done Danielle x

  • Its very generous but really the most helpful thing anyone can donate is money. Breastmilk can be a very dangerous thing to share around. Especially if its possibly been stored at the wrong temperature for an 8 hour drive.
