Hello!

We make these bags from small crochet blocks made by our 9 year old. Keeping even tension is an issue for little fingers and the blocks are often more triangular than rectangular. Children love to see their creations in use and as crochet is not very easy for them, its great to turn their hard work into useful items. My husband thought they would look odd, but they are really beautiful and useful.

Material

  • Some 3 ply wool (single colour, not multi-coloured)
  • Some 3 ply wool (complimentary colour)
  • 1 Size 3 crochet hook
  • 1 button

Method

  1. Chain stitch until you have a length of around 20cm.
  2. Double crochet approximately 12-15 rows (the height of your rows should be around 10 cm).
  3. Fold the finished rectangle to create a small bag. Secure edges with contrasting colour. Sew button onto bag.
  4. Using the contrasting colour, chain a small loop for button and attach to bag. Chain a handle for the bag and secure - length is your choice. Attach to bag.
  5. Make a simple crochet flower in contrast colour and attach to bag.

Notes

Use single colour wool as beginners find using multi coloured wool very difficult. If you are unsure of how to make the flowers - there are some great step by step youtube clips - find one that you find easy to understand.

This is really aimed at giving purpose to uneven and clumsy kids beginner crochet blocks. Kids love them and use them with pride. The bag in the photo was made by a 9 year old - the flower is positioned to disguise the triangular shape of the block.
