An old fashioned craft idea kids will love to make

Material

  • 7 Stems of lavender
  • 1 cm wide satin ribbon

Method

  1. Pick the lavender when flowers are beginning to dry on the bush, with longish stems
  2. Bunch together and tie the ribbon close to the base of the flowers, leaving a long bit hanging down to use later to tie the bow
  3. Carefully bend the stems over the flowers and use the main bit of ribbon to weave over and under stems , pulling tight as you go
  4. Continue until you get to the end of the flowers. Find the long oiece you previously left hanging and tie a tight bow. Trim ends of stems to neaten

Notes

I used to make these with my auntie and grand mother years ago. Try not to pick flowers while still blooming as it’s possible they could go mouldy. Always use an odd number of stems to be able to weave

Hubby just planted a lavender plant in a pot so I’ll have to keep an eye out for the drying flowers so I can do this project with my toddler.
