When it comes to awesome big brothers, these three strapping lads are right up there with the very best.

Each year Larry, 28, Patrick, 26, and Gavin, 22 plan their Halloween costumes around their little sister, five-year-old Avery, and the results are everything. Literally everything.

Mum Patti Schmidt, who happens to be an incredible professional photographer, says she wanted her little girl to have the same childhood memories of Halloween as her sons, despite the big age difference.

And so was born an adorable family tradition of family Halloween costumes that include all four siblings. The first Halloween they created the sibling photoshoot was 2017, and theme was The Wizard of Oz.

“Avery’s mid-air in that photo, because at the time I had a little photo series called #averyintheair and thought it would be fun to do in costume for October,” Patti told TODAY. The year after, the quartet chose two themes – Star Wars and Game of Thrones. “My husband and I we were binge-watching (Game of Thrones), and I thought the boys as dragons would be so funny,” Patti explained.

In 2020, it was The Princess Bride, which Patti says has been her favourite so far. This year’s theme, however, is top secret. “They’ve never balked … they’ve always been willing. But there may or may not be a good-natured groan or two when I pull out the next theme.”

The series of photographs is a reflection of the strong bond between the siblings, even though their age gap spans decades. “They are close despite not only age differences but physical distance. Our two oldest sons live in different states, but they’re within driving distance, and I try to get everyone together as much as possible.”

We can’t wait to see what this family cooks up for Halloween this year!

  • What a beautiful bond has been created between these siblings. Good on mum for keeping the family together in such a lovely way and good on the boys/men for being willing to go along with it.

  • I love all of the photo’s but I agree with Patti, The Princess Bride is the best. I have loved that movie ever since I first saw It around 34 years ago. The boys (men) are amazing for participating for their sister, a lot of men wouldn’t do it. It’s a credit to them!
