The MoM Team were astounded by the great lengths a Norwegian boy went to in order to visit his grandparents!

A ten-year-old Norwegian boy came up with a novel excuse after stealing his parents’ car and crashing it into a ditch – he claimed he was a DWARF who had forgotten his driving licence.

The schoolboy- who lives near the town of Dokka, around 70 miles north of Oslo – loaded his 18-month-old sister into the car shortly after 6am on Wednesday and headed for their grandparents in Valdres, about 40 miles away.

The child drove more than six miles before he veered off the road into a snow-filled ditch. He was found by a snowplow driver who alerted police.

Baard Christiansen, of Vest Oppland police district, said: “The parents woke up and discovered that the children were missing and that someone had taken off with their car.

“They were pretty upset, as you can imagine.”

But the quick-thinking youngster had a unique defence when quizzed about his early morning joyride.

“The boy told the snowplow driver that he was a dwarf and that he had forgotten his driver’s license at home,” Officer Christiansen said.

The children were uninjured in the crash and the car was not damaged, police said.

No charges have been filed and the case was closed.

Officer Christiansen said the parents had been spoken to adding: “I’m pretty sure they’re going to pay very close attention both to their children and to their car keys in the future.”

  • We look after our granddaughter every Wednesday & she is so eager to find out what her day holds with G’ma & Pa that she apparently wakes up earlier. Glad she hasn’t decided to get here on her own!

  • Oh dear. How scary was this. An accident happened not far from my home town where a 13 year old boy went for a joy ride with his friends and hit a pole. Fortunately no was killed but by the look of the news report they were all seriously injured. When my 9 year old heard me talking about this he said “Why would anyone do something so silly” – I have drummed it into my kids to act in a resonable manner!

  • I think the parents would have been really worried , if I would be the mum I would be crying my eyes out ,thinking my kids were kidnapped , it’s a gods mercy that the children are fine but you can think the worst could have happened!

  • I saw this on another site & I was actually horrified that some people thought it was funny. I have a great sense of humour & I did not even crack a smile. As for the parent praising the imaginative response to the police, congratulations you have raised a 10yr old liar. Taking his toddler sister as well, my goodness it is so disturbing. My daughter is almost 9 & no way would she ever consider doing something like this.

  • give him points for creativity, then lecture him about safety, then find out why he was so desperate to see his grandparents-especially putting his baby sister in the car as well, I mean why would he do that?

  • Its scary that the boy didn’t realise how dangerous his actions were and that he was lucky he didn’t crash the car and inure someone.

  • glad that no one was seriously injured.

  • That is kind of scary. 1. A 10 year old boy brave enough to take the family car and drive himself and his younger sibling to their grandparents house. 2. The fact that this child can come up with a lie to defend his actions to a stranger.
    Where were the parents?????
