A 14-year-old boy was doused in petrol and set on fire in the backyard of a home in the NSW Riverina.
The incident allegedly occurred at a home in Lockhart around 5.30pm on Sunday 28 August. A man has been arrested and charged.
Police said the 20-year-old threw a flammable liquid on the teenager before igniting a lighter near him.
The 14-year-old suffered serious burns to his arm, hands and back and is still being treated at The Westmead Chidren’s Hospital in Sydney.
Following investigations by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad, the 20-year-old man was arrested in Lockhart yesterday.
He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was formally charged with causing grievous bodily harm with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court today.
