This bride went above and beyond to ensure that she wasn’t outshone on her big day!

Sharing her deepest, darkest secrets on the women’s website Whimn, bride ‘Penny’ admitted that after a lifetime of being upstaged by her “hot and popular” older sister and “cute and fun” younger sister, she wanted to avoid the possibility of being upstaged on her big day.

Calling herself the ‘Jan Brady’ of her family, Penny was determined that she “wouldn’t be reminded until my last day on earth that I was the plain sister.”

Shaking Things Up

Penny’s plan was carefully thought out. The first thing she had to do was to choose the most unflattering bridesmaid dresses she could find: neon yellow dresses that washed out her three fair skinned, fair haired bridesmaids, two of whom were her sisters.

As if that wasn’t enough, and perhaps most shocking of all, Penny purchased ‘slimming shakes’ for each of her bridesmaids which she discarded the contents of and replaced with weight-gain protein powder.

Ultimate bridezilla behaviour or what!?

Despite pretending to also drink the smoothies, Penny ensured that hers remained a combination of fruit and coconut water while her bridesmaids drank up to triple the recommended amount of the weight-gain protein!

A Savage Move

Penny knew her plan had worked when each bridesmaid requested alterations to their dress due to unexplained weight gain.

Since the story went viral, the criticism for Penny has been unrelenting with one user condemning her actions “this is a SAVAGE move” and another outraged tweeter saying “can you believe someone would do this?!”

We all know that the pressure to have the perfect wedding and be the perfect bride can be immense, but we can’t help but feel sorry for Penny. And even more sorry for her poor bridesmaids! But Penny says she has no regrets.

“I never thought for a moment on my wedding day that I wasn’t the centre of attention or the most important person in the room.”

  • OMG what a horrible sister and friend.

  • How tacky. I wanted to share my day with my bridesmaids and all my guests. I was well aware I looked wonderful because your inner goodness always shows through and my being happy as made my day.

  • No way that’s a horrible thing to do. Plus you want all the photos to look good

  • This is so sad it should be a day of celebration not worrying about who is the thinnest!!!

  • This sounds like a movie script :)

  • I wonder what your bridesmaids would think of you if they knew the truth behind their weight gain. Are you also going to do this when you have children? or was it just for your wedding. Unfortunately you don’t sound like a beautiful person on the inside.

  • WOW! Me thinks not!! I thought getting married and choosing your bridesmaids was more meaningful and special than this.

  • I think she is overthinking about the situation.

  • The way the whole article is written is a problem. Not being fair skinned or fair haired makes you ‘plain’…. give me a break!

  • Wow if I found out someone did this to me I’d write them off. That could potentially be months of hard work- so incredibly selfish!

  • What a nutter!

  • Wow I think something is seriously wrong with the bride for her to do this but then what was with the bridesmaids agreeing to have the slim shake I not skinny but not fat if I was a bridesmaid and the bride asked me to have a slime shake I wouldn’t do it

  • This bride has some serious issues. She better could have spent her money on some good counseling. I wonder if the bridegroom knows where he’s in for.

  • That is the height of insecurity, she gave a wrong message to everyone, Tobe a center of attention she shouldn’t pull others down, it shows that her popularity on her wedding was just because her bridesmaids weren’t good enough. Not very impressed.

  • Such low esteem … she should have enlisted the help of her bridesmaids (and sisters) to ensure they all looked and felt gorgeous for the big day ….not ruined the photos just to make a point and regret it forever ….
