Teen brother of a 10-year-old who smashed his head on a door frame during an argument has been charged with his death.

His mother ‘had some words’ with the younger brother on May 23, but the 15-year-old was enraged and punched his sibling in the ribs while holding his wrist, court documents allege, reports Daily Mail.

The teenager, from Queanbeyan, southeast of Canberra, then allegedly pushed the 10-year-old, causing him to hit his head on the corner of the door frame and his mother found the child unresponsive on the floor, according to the Canberra Times

Although ambulance officers were able to recover a faint pulse after 25 minutes, he was rushed to Canberra Hospital and placed on life support.

He died two days later.

The teenager allegedly lied to police about how the young boy had died, saying he slipped off the kitchen table and hit his head.

But after his death, the 15-year-old admitted to the heated argument and said he was scared of the consequences.

He was arrested and charged with assault causing death.

The teenager fronted Queanbeyan Children’s Court in May and was granted bail to reappear in December.

As a mum of two rough and tumble boys this breaks my heart. In the end it was just an accident. I would hate to see my son charged for that. Heartbreaking.

  • This is a tough one. The little one most likely had damaged ribs which may have damaged his heart even before CPR was being performed. After 25 + minutes his brain was probably not getting any oxygen or blood flow.
The teenager needs to be aware of the seriousness but I’m sure he has punished himself ever since it happened. Maybe compulsory anger management therapy would be a good option.

  • How awful !! My heart goes out to the mum and the charged brother. The death of his brother is more then enough consequence on his actions.

  • Boys can be so rough at times. They do not mean to but it happens.. Even sisters can be do things like these.

  • That is just crazy. This is because children are not disciplined anymore!

  • If they really charge him, the mother will lose two children.
Surely he didn’t want his brother dead. :-(
