Caitlyn Jenner sat down with Ellen Degeneres last week, and discussed everything from dating, to Jenner’s children, as well as the topic of gay marriage.

During her appearance, Jenner revealed “I’m older than most people in the audience, and I kind of like tradition, you know, and it’s always been a man and a woman.”

She did however concede that she wouldn’t stand in the way of anyone’s happiness.

While the pair seemed to get along well during the segment, Ellen (who is married to actress Portia De Rossi) was left unimpressed by Jenner’s views.

Speaking to Howard Stern, Ellen shared that she was still trying to understand Jenner’s comments.

“She still has a judgment about gay marriage. And I said, ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you … and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage.'”

Stern commented that he thought Jenner’s views were ‘crazy’.

“Here’s a person on TV crying, ‘I want to be myself, I want to be genuine, I don’t want people to ridicule me.'”

“Then says in the same breath, ‘Gee, gay marriage, I don’t get it,” he continued. “It’s remarkable.”

  • Yes I agree that what she is saying is confusing.

  • I don’t like it when people who oppose gay marriage a re criticised. Thos pro-gay marriage talk of free speech, right to opinions yet put people down who oppose them. Its very hypocritical.

  • Odd really considering Caitlyn wants to be accepted for who she is that she has an issue with gay marriage. Particularly when she’s sitting across from Ellen!!

  • hmmmm, this is an individual that still has to sort out self identity and direction in life.

  • The confusion is sadly what transgender people have to live with even though they change their sex they never truly feel adequate as that person.

  • I think this is one very mixed up human being – what has now been done cannot be reversed, but I get the feeling that happiness will always be elusive for this person.

  • I think she is still really confused even after her choices she has made. , been mixed up in a family where beauty is everything wouldnt of helped at all.. Its time She stepped back from the spotlight and found herself for real. Also she shouldnt be so quick to judge others if she doesnt want others to judge her.

  • I think they are both confused. Why would Jenner become a woman if she is going to date women and she avoided the subject of Gay Marriage anyway. I was left wondering why I even watched it!!!

  • This is an actual joke. I can’t believe someone that went through what she went through can turn around and talk about believing in traditional way of things. It makes next to no sense. Ellen done well keeping her cool during the interview

  • Honestly… I think a lot was taken out of context here… She was referring to “15-20 years ago” in her comment… and that times have changed since, she like many others have adapted. You also need to understand that “transgender” is completely different to being gay or lesbian etc – you’re not just choosing to be with someone of the same sex or opposite, you’re choosing to BE a different sex! A lot of gay/lesbian people aren’t actually all that supportive of transgender themselves… they don’t understand it (same with hetero sexual people). The interview shown here wasn’t the complete interview (and many shows will direct the viewing to what they want you to see as well, Ellen isn’t beyond that herself… love her as I do). I know a lot of lesbian women don’t like/understand bisexuals (how do I know? I’m bi! And completely monogamous!) #LoveIsLove

    • Articulate and thoughtful comments and I agree; Caitlyn was expressing opinions she held years ago about being traditional. Everyone views and opinions change over the course of a lifetime. People change and adapt as they go through their life journey.

  • I think the ‘confusion’ on this issue is probably just an extension of the ‘confusion’ going on internally with transgender individuals in general. So, whilst it might seem hypocritical in one sense, it is almost equally expected in another. It is not impossible for someone who identifies as being female but is biologically male (& then makes choices to rectify that discrepancy) to believe in the traditional institution of marriage. It is just perceived as odd on account of transgender & gay marriage both being non-traditional and people assuming that a pro-choice stance is generic and therefore applies across all areas of an individual’s freedom to choose.
