Carrie Bickmore speaks openly about her child birth experience and why she needed the help of a professional ahead of the birth of her second child.

While on air for her HIT Network radio program, Carrie, 36, said, “Giving birth is a full on thing, it’s beautiful, it’s special, but it’s also traumatic.”

“It’s painful, I would have done anything to have the experience erased from my mind,” she added.

“I found it so traumatic come the birth of my second child I actually had counselling to get myself okay to be able to give birth to Evie because I was so scared after the first experience” she said.

“They say you forget and that’s why you go back again. I never forgot.”

“The funniest part, it’s hard to get your head around what actually happens. A big thing comes out of a very small place,” she concluded.

Carrie is a mum of two – daughter Evie and son Ollie, with her late husband Greg Lange.

  • i think that it really is just a personal experience and everyone is different. i didn’t have major issues so i wasn’t traumatised.

  • My first one should have been traumatic, but the medical staff didn’t let on how serious it was. An undiagnosed breech for my first, scarey

  • Good on her for getting counselling.

  • I guess if you think like I did that all this is natural, then you will accept the birth pains.

    • Hi stepmom wishing you smooth sailing for the rest of your pregnancy and calm waters for the birth.
Deep breaths and relax and imagine that beautiful bub nestled on your chest. All my love is sent to you.

  • I totally get Carrie. She was brave enough to have a second child, whereas my pregnancy and birth experience was so traumatic, I never went back for a second. 15 years on, and the memory is still so vivid to me.

  • Some Mums tend to suffer depression before the birth of their baby, even with first baby.
Counselling is an excellent idea as the depression can be compounded after the birth.

  • birth can be really scary especially second time around after a traumatic birth

  • It is good that she is talking about this – other women then feel free to say their birth experience wasn’t perfect.
