New laws in this country could wipe out paedophilia once and for all.

Indonesia’s new law authorising chemical castration “will wipe out” sex crimes including paedophilia, President Joko Widodo said in an interview with the BBC on Tuesday (Oct 18).

The laws were passed earlier this month after a proposal from the government, approving harsher penalties for perpetrators of sexual violence against children.

“Our constitution respects human rights, but when it comes to sexual crimes there is no compromise,” President Widodo said in the BBC interview.

“We are strong and we will be very firm. We will hand out the maximum penalty for sexual crimes.

He added: “In my opinion … chemical castration, if we enforce it consistently, will reduce sex crimes and wipe them out over time.”

Penalties under the new law include death as a maximum sentence and chemical castration, with a possible addition of a two-year maximum jail sentence.

Do you agree with the new law? Should we trial this in Australia?

  • Something certainly needs to be done. I think maximum penalty should be death. If they are jailed I don’t believe they should be under protection at all because if something happens then they did it to themselves! Before convicted the judge needs to be 100% sure of conviction though which I’m unsure how maybe lie detectors!

  • Exactly. Are they going to cut off their fingers to prevent it happening that way.
I know of a little 5 y.o.girl was molested by her Dad using his fingers

  • Something certainly needs to be done. However like others have said there are other ways to abuse children.
The authorities need to be certain they have the right person before the charge the people.

  • I’m fine with this law, as long as there’s no doubt of guilt. My only concern is……sexual penetration isn’t the only way to sexually abuse a child. So even with castration they can still abuse kids

  • Yes, I agree with this new law.

  • Yep im completely ok with that as long as aauthorities are 100% sure the person is guilty.

  • Not sure about it. But maybe the threat of chemical castration will stop a lot of paedophils, who knows?

  • I am not sure this is the answer but something needs to be done .

  • I say go ahead and trial chemical castration, anything to stop these monsters is beneficial! When these paedophiles get out they almost always reoffend!
