Convicted child rapist on the run after he absconded from a Melbourne disability treatment facility.

It is believed he could be on his way to Mildura, police say, reports 9 news.

Christopher Austin fled the Disability Forensic Assessment and Treatment Service in Fairfield at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.

Austin was serving a five-year residential placement order after committing a sexual assault.

A man fitting Austin’s description was seen at 6am yesterday in Kew East, pushing a mountain bike along the Main Yarra Trail near Willow Grove, wearing shorts and a jumper.

Austin – who has an intellectual disability – had two years remaining on his order after being convicted of rape.

He has dollar sign tattoos on his leg and finger and a rat’s tail hairstyle.

Police have warned members of the public not to approach him.

  • Hope he is soon caught. Was this another Telstra problem when the lines were down and parolees were not known where they were?

  • Agreed, this should never have happened.

  • I do not understand how this happens. He needs to be caught soon. 4 days on and I believe he’s still on the run. I hope he doesn’t hurt anybody else.

  • Do hope he doesn’t get a chance to hurt anyone else before he is caught again.

  • He may not be severely physically disabled. He may have an intellectual disability. The facility obviously isn’t secure enough. If he’s on a bicycle we can go a lot of places that aren’t accessable by car.

  • Should have been in prison in the first place.

  • He can’t be too disabled to have escaped. This is scary. I hope that they catch him soon.
